I’ve been thinking about making a Druid move/item/fictionally-learned-ability that allows our druid to do “quick change” actions, where he quickly shifts in then out of a form to do something (eg. turn into something fast to catch up to a foe, then change back to halfling/into something else to attack). It feels like this doesn’t really fit with the gain hold function of the regular shapeshift since he’s only changing briefly. I’ve been inspired by some video games like Bayonetta where the animal forms are mostly a means of traversal but the actual fighting is performed in human form. The changes can be very rapid.

Any ideas for mechanics to go with this? Or should I just make it descriptive? It’s mostly an idea for a coolness/flavour thing, so maybe if he’s not involving an attack it’s just something that he gets to make happen without a shapeshift roll? What do you guys think?

Our fighter has a quiver (1 ammo) of the Arrows of Acheron and asked if he could notch two arrows in his bow, since the arrows never miss. Not wanting to say no, I wrote up a custom move.

Trick Bow Shot

When you notch two arrows in your bow, take aim and shoot at one or two targets within range, spend one ammo and roll+DEX. On a 10+, you have a clear shot. You may choose to either deal your damage -1d6 to two targets or deal your damage to one target +1d6. On a 7-9, you still hit, but choose 1.

 – You have to move to get the shot placing you in danger as described by the GM.

 – One of your arrows goes astray and hits an unintended target determined by the GM. Deal your damage -1d6 to both targets.

 – Your bow is damaged. You’ll need to spend time repairing it before you can use it again.

If you use this move, your GM may ask you where you learned to shoot like that.

When you attend to the workings of a business at the beginning of each session or during downtime roll +Int

On a 10+ Choose 2

·         Your business expands into new markets +1 Profit

·         Your business gains the attention of a useful ally or patron.

·         Your business earns you 1d6 coin per point of profit it possesses.

On a 7-9 Choose 2 from the above list, but there’s a problem too that’s disrupting business as usual. Deal with it or watch your business suffer.

On a 6- Your business suffers a nasty setback. -1 Proft and unless you deal with the problem that faces it, expect it to suffer more.

A new business requires at least 50 Coin to start along with workers to partake in it and starts at 0 Profit. If you invest 100 Coin +100 Coin per point of Profit your Business currently has into your business, increase it’s Profit by 1. Adding significant fictional improvements (like replacing your workers with tireless golem slaves or conjured demons) will also increase profit, but may have other repercussions.

When you send minions, toadies, or servants afar to accomplish your will with the appropriate tools and skills roll +Cha if it’s a simple direct order, +Wis if it’s a long term plan, or +Int if it’s part of a long and elaborate scheme.

On a 10+ They’ll do it for you without problem or complaint.

On a 7-9 They’ll do it for you but you’ll need to give them aid, support, or motivation if you want them to do it properly.

6- They make things worse through incompetence, ill-fortune, or rebellion.

I was also trying to brainstorm something along the lines of a “When you make your first appearance at court” move, for those characters that might try elevating themselves by their bootstraps into the ranks of the nobility. The move would cover the sort of impression they make, the attention they attract, and how aware they are of the scheming sna…I mean respectable and upright nobles of the court.

Any thoughts on that?

I’ve been mulling over whether to test/implement this one.  What do you think?

The players enter a room with rats that have been feeding off of psychoactive mushrooms. The rats will swarm and have the following move: Scury under worn items. This will mean the players will have to strip off gear as tripping rats gnaw at them.

The players will enter woods that forest goblins are hunting in. Two moves for the goblins will be: disappear into woods and the second move will be Attack unseen from the woods. Theis will add some spice to combat as goblin snipers will need to be found in addition to the frontline brawlers.

Has anyone played out similiar moves and if so how did it play out?

What are some other ways you can mechanically add a bonus to your roll besides just +1?

What are some other ways you can mechanically add a bonus to your roll besides just +1? I’m currently planning a move that should give a fairly substantial bonus, more on the order of +2 or +3, but I want something cooler than that. I’d like to keep it a mechanical effect, if possible. The Barbarian’s 1d6+1d8 appetites is an example of what I had in mind.

Need some advice – I’d like to introduce an Omens move – but Omens are like a coin, they have two sides.

Need some advice – I’d like to introduce an Omens move – but Omens are like a coin, they have two sides. Some see it as positive, while others as negative. I want to introduce the Omens idea and the write a move that allows the PCs to interpret an event or item or NPC as part of the campaign’s overall Omen. I have no idea what the omen is outside of Good is winning or Evil is winning – I want the PCs to help define it – but how does that translate into a Move? Maybe 10+ and the interpretation is true and grants a bonus? 7-9 points in the “right” direction? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

A Tale of Souls and Swords…

Requires: Signature Weapon

When your Signature Weapon makes a demand of you in keeping with its desire, take +1 forward to fulfill that demand. If either of you benefit from your efforts, mark xp.

…Eternally Retold

Requires: A Tale of Souls and Swords…

Your Signature Weapon has traveled with you for so long that your goals and its are nearly one and the same. Write a second alignment condition in keeping with your Signature Weapon’s instinct. You may fulfill and earn xp for both of these alignment conditions, potentially earning 2 xp if you fulfill both over the course of a single session.
