Working on a new adventure today led to developing a Blue mage/Spellthief compendium class, then after I finished I noticed Ben Wray posted something similar a week ago! I thought I’d put this online for feedback anyway – let me know what you think guys!

The Affinitist

Through the material and the arcane every being shares a link, through flesh and stone and steel and soul. The link shapes us, but we, in turn, can shape the link.

I’m trying to pull together a Compendium class in time for our next session (so by Friday).

I’m trying to pull together a Compendium class in time for our next session (so by Friday). I need to give it a suitable name, and pick the moves. The description though needs to be something like:

“Aracheen, the Kobold’s Spider Goddess of Hidden Knowledge, who dwells within of a web of lies and deceit, whose children found throughout the world seek knowledge and rumours and whose venom causes madness, visions and glimpses of ones own fate has laid her eggs beneath your skin. The next time you level up you may pick this move:”

Any suggestions?

(they are not formatted right now)

The Spellthief, Junge Stalker and the Jack of all Trades.

All of these are primarily aimed at Thief players but can be taken by any class. The JoaT is something that is also very much a Bard thing but fit’s in well with the Thief archetype too i think.

The Spellthief is a concept from 3.5 that i really like (but is not very much fun in that system). It’s pretty focused on backstabbing mages.

The Junge Stalker was my try to do something that is both “primal magic” and a Thief. It took me a long time but taking on aspects and abilities of things like Snakes and Spiders seems very fitting to me.

The Jack of all Trades is well, a Multiclass Addict that can do a lot of stuff but not all of these well.  Racial Ambiguity works with non-Race moves too, you just have too decide if some particular drive/focus/whatever would make sense to match his original move choice.

So, I’m sure someone can find a use for this.

When you discover the truth that your blood is teeming with life, you can take this move when you level up:

FECUND BLOOD

When you intentionally cut yourself and let your blood pour onto the ground, it rapidly congeals into a nasty little monster. Every point of damage you deal to yourself gives the thing +1 Loyalty or +1 point in a hireling skill of your choice. It will dry out and die after a few hours.

After you’ve taken Fecund Blood, you can take the following moves when you level up:

TRAUMATIC BIRTH

When you take damage in a way that causes your blood to spill onto the ground, you create a hireling. Every 2 points of damage you take in this way translates into 1 point of Loyalty or Skill.

HOMECOMING

When you spend a minute devouring one of your freaky little blood-children, you recover a number of hit points equal to their Loyalty + their Skills. If you do it in a hurry, you only heal half as much, and you make a terrible mess.

Because I promised Tim Franzke to make it.

Because I promised Tim Franzke to make it. It’s a CC for summoning Drakes and doing crazy ocean stuff, like shapeshifting into a Giant Octopus, summon and control a frigate at will and conjure forth a trident of salt.

I have no idea how close to home this is, but I thoroughly enjoyed writing this one 🙂

I’d be happy for any feedback you can provide.

Hangout game!

Hangout game!

Hangout game! And guess what: first the wizard failed her roll to cast invisibility on the thief, making him permanently invisibile; then the cleric failed to cast cure light wounds on him, making the thief also incorporeal. He exploited this status in wonderful ways for a session and a half, then the wizard, after having gathered the right ingredients, ritualized a cure. Now the thief is totally eligible for some compendium class! We’re thinking more of a ghostly/spiritic path than a classic phantom ninja’s one. Is there anything out there we can build on? Someone with good ideas to share with us?

Feel free to suggest additional stuff, the CC works like that but could be better. I was mostly inspired by Mouse Guards weather watching system and the weather watcher move someone posted. Then i added a bit of X-Men and taadaa:
