Dungeonworld Session #2

Recap: Session 1: https://plus.google.com/110706667354365952462/posts/2hQAG2Rzi8d

The adventurers were tasked by the great Baron Steuben Von Offerdahl IV to retrieve a stolen item of his from the arch mage Magdor who resides near the remote village of Frontier.

As the party made their way down the long road Jonas, acting as scout, could see a cart toppled over lying on the road some distance ahead. Fearing danger ahead, swayed by Lily the Bard, the party decides to take the unbeaten path towards Fallen Wood – a forest that has a reputation for Orc movements and the presence of elves.

Before entering Fallen Wood the party decides to make camp in a clear, high-grass, glade. As night falls upon the world, and darkness envelops the light, a sound comes closer to the party. Suddenly they’re under attack by a small group of large boars! It could have been the smell of food that lured the beasts into their settlement, but they came across a mystery.

As Jonas dresses one of the 3 large boars he comes across something very hard embedded in the head of one of the beasts. It appears shiny, red, almost a faint glow in the coming light of the dawn. It’s also faceted. A ruby? Perhaps, but not one that the party has ever seen. It’s almost the size of a human’s fist! By the gods! Upon removing the stone from the animal’s skull it appears less appealing. The radiance seems to diminish. And the gem is only found in one of the beasts. Is it truly a ruby, or is it some other stone? How did it find itself in the skull of a boar? Are there other animals that may possess such treasures?

The sun breaks the tranquility of night and the party moves forward into Fallen Wood where they are ambushed by a group of orcses. A glorious, fast-paced, battle ensues. The party eventually dispatches them.

The battle with the orcs was fun. (even the boar fight was fun) Lots of things going on. Certainly have to ensure everyone was on the same page, painting the picture of what was going on, where everyone was and how everyone’s actions impacted others.

I did whip up one adventure front, it was ok. The grim portents tend to span more than just the orc encounter, but that’s ok. Some of them will come into play in the near future. I have to do up some more fronts, to include Campaign & Adventure Fronts.

I do have some ideas brewing and winging it a bit is something I’m totally good with.

so, after two sessions now I’m onmy way to build some fronts, what follows is som backgraound history emerged from the first two games…

THAT’S HISTORY…

two facts

one:

A century ago occured a bloody battle between the Order of the Silent Dawn on a side, and Signadoth the  blind demon prince and his followers, on the other.

Finally the Order prevailed on the Demon and managed to banish him from the world, imprisoning him on a distant plane. But, many of the Order of the Dawn were killed in the battle and the Order itself disappeared.

two:

fifty years ago…

Nashrazel the dragon was terrorizing the people of the north, and one knight named Cyril stood alone against the dragon and finally killed the winged beast.

In the heat of the fight with the dragon, Cyril prayed for help and some misteryous entity answeared his call. Cyril offered his life if the mysterious entity would granted him the strenght to deliver a single deadly blow to Nashrazel. So a pact was sealed. The dragon was slayed, but the Entity took the life of Cyril’s family and not his. So the knight went mad, wondered alone for years, disappearing. Legend says that some of the blood spilled from the dragon’s wound crystallized into a weapon called The Claw of Regret, and that Cyril took it with him before he disappeared.

…AND NOW…

The Cult of Signadoth recently has embarked on a quest to retrieve the Claw of Regret, because of it’s power to release Signadoth the Demon Prince. Unfortunately the one who knows where is the Claw it is Shraya, the ruler of the Realm of the Nightmares, the place where bad dreams come from to visit mankind during the night. She is the custodyan of all mankind’s nightmares, including Cyril’s.

But theyr plans are not unknown to the few successor of the newly reformed Order of the Dawn that kidnapped Shraya to hide her from theyr enemies.

WHAT HAPPENED…

the Pc’s were hired to escort a caravan of a disguised group of men of the Order, who had to bring Shraya in a secret place, and then decide what to do with her. During the journey they were attacked by a group of armed man (related to the cult of the demon prince), that took Shraya with them but later she managed to escape when the group confronted with a spirit of the drowned.

The party retreated into a magical swamp (where they successfuly killed the spirit of the drowned).

NOTE: Shraya it’s the only person of the realm of nightmares who can walk into the mortal world (but only during the day time), but the Order casted a spell of binding on her, a tattoo that looks like chains, so now she can’t come back to his plane and it’s on the run. Her duty is to keep the natural balance of things in her own realm, but what would happen if it is missing? How would react the caothic spirits of the nightmares?

We’ve just had our first AP session.

We’ve just had our first AP session.

We’ve just had our first AP session. Did most of character creation midweek, and today was introductions and bondwriting.

Im not sure if this is what they meant but I had the first two characters, Charli Kingston ‘s elven ranger and Darren Turner ‘s human barbarian, simply fill in the suggested bonds on their sheets, one for each of the other characters. Then when my lad tomas, playing an elven wizard, came to write his bonds there was already a framework of sorts there.

In line with the book I started off dropping the players into the thick of things, literally.

I wrote notes as I went along and part way through realised I have an audio recorder which I kicked in. I reckon I’ll scan the notes and upload the sounds soon. I presume it’s cool to share them here?

TL;DR – we played. We liked.

Life in Dragonport isn’t always easy.  Sometimes, a noble Paladin needs to make some coin to save the orphanage.  Or a wizard can’t afford the kraken ambergris for that Summon-the-Brackish-One ritual they’ve been dying to try.  And fighters just need to stretch their legs and sharpen their skills in someone’s guts from time to time.   When the occasion arises, folks hang around the Grey Mouse.  Some form of employment will scurry across their plate sooner or later.

This is the first installment of my attempt at a jump-on, jump-off DW campaign.  Come enjoy an adventure!  My goal is to allow for a rotating cast of players and characters where folks can join if they’re able, skip a session if they’re not.  Newbies and veterans alike are welcome.

Shrödinger’s Gun, I gave my players a pistol that was dropped in the sewer, a player move turned it into the Commissar of Ptolus’ pistol which he had flushed to get rid of evidence. I fucking love Dungeon World!

We just ended our first session (play by community) rather abruptly as a horror from out of reality basically destroyed the dungeon.

They went to investigate a meteor that fall from the sky, found it to be highly magical and fought a half-scorpion construct after the bard had seen all of time and space happening (more or less). The same bard then summoned a weird lovecraftian horror, by accident, that destroyed the whole magic of the place. (short form)

I will try to post every important Discussion threat here so you can see everything that went on.

Disclaimer, we lost the player of Baragus halfway through.

Sir Valentine calls his companions for his quest:

I, Sir Valentine of Belverus, Knight of the Nemedian Order of Chroniclers am on a quest to uncover the truth of the Adessian meteor.  Thusly, I am marked with golden sunlight shining through my eyes to show I am on a holy quest.  I have likewise vowed to hold the highest standards of honor and truth during my quest.

However, I am but a humble servant of my god and my order.  If you, my good friends should wish to accompany me, I would welcome your companionship and rest assured that your names will be written in the chronicles for future generations to read about, with more than a little awe!
