Today, on Dungeon World, our heroes murdered the barkeep, robbed his storeroom, started a bar brawl, followed by an explosion/fire, then fled. A pattern is emerging.

In other news, it turns out the thieves’ guild here is a literal underground network, also the bandit king eludes capture (and has everyone in their pockets) because the entire operation is masterminded by a Greed Demon.

NBD. They only came into town to buy food & horses.

So this was my first true session of a campaign of Dungeon World (really my first session of an RPG, since all the other games I have run have been really crappy one-shots (crappiness was my fault)), so I would appreciate any feedback. I’m pretty sure I messed up in a number of different places, so don’t kill me in the comments. I’m just writing this for and for you guys to get better in your critiquing skills I guess. I think the PC’s did a great job ojn creating the world and the map.

*And by the way, this play doesn’t have rolls, I forgot to tell the person who was keeping notes to record what the rolls were and their outcomes.

I am really enjoying the new Dungeon World actual play podcast, We Hunt the Keepers (http://www.gauntlet-rpg.com/we-hunt-the-keepers), from Jason Cordova and the Gauntlet podcast crew. I like that it takes the story seriously without being joyless. Everyone is obviously having fun, but it isn’t devolving into a nonsensical jokefest.

Are there any other good Dungeon World podcasts out there that take a similar tone? I am interested in podcasts where you can get caught up in the shared story that is taking place.

Today, on Dungeon World, the Cleric of Fire and the Wizard worked a ritual to release the spirit of a Druid whilst his dryad caretakers held the Immolator and the Thief hostage. The ritual went well, until the Cleric ran out of Speak With Dead and tried to use Guidance to conjure a helpful flame…which the Immolator bent to his will to burn the dryads and turn the whole thing into a screaming, flailing, smoke-filled mess. Then the party sat down to camp by the fire which had been their captor.

Once again, I had a chance to introduce two more players to tabletop RPGs, and I used Dungeon World to show them what it’s all about. The creativity they were able to bring to the table was amazing … especially considering they had only played video games up till now. Dungeon World is simply an awesome game.
