So for my one shot session yesterday in dungeon world I kind of wanted something structured, something that would last the 4 hours have a satisfying session and a big bad guy at the end. So I decided to experiment with using the 5 node mystery design that Justin Alexander made : http://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/37903/roleplaying-games/5-node-mystery.

It went pretty well, I had basically 4 locations which each had various clues that pointed towards each other and each had a little mini “encounter”. The good thing about Dungeon World is.that its front loaded the players can roll spout lore and you can directly tell them it points to this place. This leaves the clues being very open to inspiration and changing them depending what tge players do. The nodes also.weren’t designed throughally, I just had cool ideas that would fit in the particular setting and went with it.

I.will have to see if it works for more canpaign, as I.said its a lot more structured, I didn’t have any fronts and basically kind of pushed each location and cut to it. But for a one shot I recommend it.

After-action report:  Played my first tabletop session today in Dungeon World.  As a bard, I played some inspiring tunes, stayed behind to find a solution to a problem while my party chased a fight & wrote a rhyming ballad to enforce a bond with a female PC that my character is trying to bang.  As it turns out, the music was the only thing that went right as I ended up pissing off (and subsequently losing said horse). After that, I re-joined the party and was stabbed by a Goblin and found out the awkward way about #unrequitedaffection  from said female party member.  We breaked just as the party returns from the cavernous encounter to see the caravan we were escorting is now horseless and me scolding our NPC stage coach driver for not properly tethering the beast of burden.  All-in-all, not a bad way to spend a Saturday!   #tabletopcherrypop

Finally posting episode 2 of Dungeon World: Haunted Hills.

This game has immediately stopped being the self-contained dungeon dive I planned for. I flounder a bunch as a GM, but it’s definitely heading to a good place.

Ahoy, Tavernites!

Ahoy, Tavernites!

Ahoy, Tavernites! Episode #004 of my podcast is now up! It wasn’t supposed to be live until Monday, but I will be out of town for the next several days and didn’t want to leave everyone hanging.

In this episode, our pop star-themed Dungeon World characters dig into some undead as they try and uncover the hidden truth of the mysterious, ghostly village. Everyone keeps being ridiculous and I keep audibly groaning at their antics. All in all, it’s pretty damn funny. Listen here or on iTunes! Thanks!

If any of you folks are keeping up with my podcast, Too Cool For Tabletop, Episode #003 is now available! This is my favorite episode yet. My guests create characters based on Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Nicki Minaj (with anaconda companion, Kanye) and proceed to make me roll my eyes and groan with displeasure as they completely derail my Dungeon World one-shot.

Listen to it here, or find us on iTunes and other popular podcasting apps!

Whew!

Whew!

Whew! I had a player roll Last Breath for the first time tonight! While fighting a giant evil frog and a cult of frogmen (during which the Barbarian scaled the frog Shadow of the Collosus-style and the Paladin got eaten whole, then used climbing pitons to scale its esophagus and stab it in the mouth, and multiple characters nearly drowned), the bard got walloped for all her remaining health. She couldn’t even bear to look as she rolled, so I got to announce that she got a 12!
