Third in a series of “heist books” — compendium classes that I’m going to be trotting out at Origins to run a little scenario called “Temple of One: What’s Yours Is Divine”. It’s about a bunch of monsters teaming up to rob the living daylights out of an interfaith temple of all the sunlover gods.

Just a first draft, so I’d appreciate feedback.

Looking for comments, as it’s a first draft. I’ll be trying to post one a day.

Busting out a copy of InDesign, I did a little layout work and finishing for Michael Atlin ‘s Princess playbook.

Feedback is appreciated, especially on the issue of starting gear. I think “any 3 bundles” gives the playbook rough parity with other classes in terms of starting gear since it has so few standard items, but is that a little too much for a class that’s got moves focused around improvising your way out of a situation?

Here’s a little guide I bashed together about my guiding framework on custom moves.

Here’s a little guide I bashed together about my guiding framework on custom moves. It might be a useful place to start when you’re thinking about special front or dungeon moves, or even designing a new playbook.

This is something I’m sharing with my players, so I thought I’d share it here too.

Often there are a lot of stats that might make sense for Defy Danger, so how do you frame what you’re doing appropriately? Well…

+str: Say what you’re trying to push, and what you hope doesn’t break. (feel free to get metaphorical. Your barbarian may be trying to push the merchants around and hoping he doesn’t break the peace)

+dex: Say what you’re racing against, and what you can’t do to win. (either can’t as in incapable or can’t as in unwilling)

+con: Say why you could do this all day, and why you really don’t want to.

+int: Say what fact your plan hinges on, and why you can’t possibly be wrong. (The “possibly” is in massive, massive sarcasm quotes.)

+wis: Say what you’re focusing on, and what you mustn’t ignore.

+cha: Say whose sympathies you’re playing to, and why they should even care.

Also, when you’re rolling to aid someone, say what you’re putting at risk to help them.

Only found this community recently, but this was a game I ran at a con a while back, and typed up the AAR because I totally had to share it with people.

I drew inspiration from the Planarch Codex and things went pretty well, except for a few things: I needed to spend more time before the game clarifying what heritage moves were and probably providing examples for the players, and I wanted to impress on players the weird alien beauty of the place and the Sultana, but also ended up making the Showboat think he couldn’t really use Lover In Every Port.

I also ended up shifting a couple of the assumptions of Dis, I think, but this was with a group of characters who were fictionally much higher-powered, and being a con game, I wanted them to be able to find some answer to the question they came into Dis asking in the first place.

Anyway, AAR’s in the link, I’d enjoy it if you could read and comment.
