The ‘say what you want to do and roll’ mechanic works beautifully most of the time.  But this situation stumped me:  a warrior in full plate mail wanted to try to climb a wall.  I’d usually say roll+Dex or maybe Con due to the weight, but realistically there is no way you can climb a wall in plate mail.  I’d prefer to just say “impossible!  what do you do instead?” but I’m wondering if others have used a different strategy.

In other systems, say D20 or percentile systems, you’d just make the difficulty very very high.  Meaning that the chance of success was vanishingly small, but hey, maybe.  Which is kind of fun.  In DW I’m not sure how to give my fighter his chance at his absurd request.

Has anyone used the Mage class in play?

Has anyone used the Mage class in play?  I picked up the bundle and that’s the one that most interests me.  I actually find the classic wizard kinda boring, with the spells already planned out and they merely select what’s in their spell quiver that day.

Much more interesting in my mind is the person who can say “I want to turn its wings into stone!”  or “I summon a massive gust of wind and blow them off the ledge!”  The Mage class seems to be closer to this kind of magic system.

Any insights, advice, or experiences with this class?

Quick update on the GM screen I put together.

Quick update on the GM screen I put together.  I kept the first three pages which are the ones I’ll be using, but added a Weapons and Equipment and Tags page.  I also made a black and white version with no images for easy printing if you prefer.

I did not add the Instincts, Services, and some other requests due to them being either too many items to fit well on a screen or too damn much typing for my laziness level.  Your choice.

Enjoy!

While I was excited to get DW, the cat was unimpressed by the book.  She was a huge fan of the box, however.

NYC area DWers, anyone interested in starting a Meetup or something similar for occasional one off games?

NYC area DWers, anyone interested in starting a Meetup or something similar for occasional one off games?  My group plays somewhat regularly but it would be fun I think to have a mailing list where one could say “I’m interested in hosting a one off game for 4 players this Sunday in Ft Greene- anyone interested?”

I love our campaign but as the GM it would also be fun to have a stab at playing a character for a few hours, meet other gamers, see other styles of play, etc.  Seems like there’s a reasonable number of players in New York to make this worth considering.
