So, this is a Compendium Class I whipped up really quickly for a campaign that’s currently on hiatus. The players encountered a magical item which housed an arcane construct called an “Astral Guardian”. (In the game, Astral Guardians take names/inspiration from constellations. Star Pulses are their evil equivalent, being eldritch entities in the service of the cultists of the Elder Gods.)

It’s very heavily-inspired by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders; Astral Guardians and Star Pulses are invisible to normal people, but their wielders can see them. They give special powers and abilities to their user.

So, I mentioned in the AP section that I ended Arc 1 of our Dungeon World campaign with a massive nuclear Smite that leveled a village. The session ended with the fates of a number of minor characters undetermined.

I just realized that this is a great opportunity to Think Dangerous.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I LIKED THAT CHARACTER.

Alright, stiff upper lip. I can do this.

Capped off the first arc of our Dungeon World campaign as an order of overzealous paladins nuked a city to stop it from becoming a portal to the Hells. Our own paladin went down in blood and gore in an attempt to stop them, finally coming to terms with the violence that stained his own hands before he passed over to death.

I think we just Empire Strikes Back’d this thing. I’ve got a paladin civil war to make a Front for, some new recurring NPCs who were saved, and the paladin’s player is already planning his next character…a bard who was saved by our fighter.

Today, the party ran into their first trap. Probably long overdue, but oh well.

The Fighter and Paladin charged headlong into it, just as the Ranger Discerned Realities and noticed it.

She rolled her eyes and facepalmed.

For the session I ran on Halloween, a chain demon showed up in the village plagued by imps, thanks to a paladin stepping in and driving them off. (They called for reinforcements.)

Of course, the paladin just charged in and grabbed the chain demon by the chains, then eventually sent the fire of his god into the creature. (I just had him Defy Danger with WIS, and inflicted d6 damage even when he got a 10+, because channeling divine energy like that is not to be trifled with. It totally annihilated the Demon, though.)

So metal.

Well, that was unexpected!

Well, that was unexpected!

Well, that was unexpected! We now have a party that is partially at-odds, in traditional Monsterhearts/Apocalypse World style. One helped the lizardmen take over a garrison (without excess bloodshed), and the other two fled from the lizardmen in order to find help.

Though, I don’t think there need to be any adjustments to make this work, which is cool. There’ll just have bond moves that don’t resolve much.
