Has anyone had a player decide to keep their old character and play it beside a new one when they reach level 10?

Has anyone had a player decide to keep their old character and play it beside a new one when they reach level 10? How does this affect the narrative, with one player being pulled in two directions?

  1. Not in DW, but we’ve had this happen a couple of times in AW. It works really easily and well. There haven’t been any issues. I think it adds a great new dimension to play.

If the narrative gets pulled in two directions then that’s what happens. You just play to find out where it goes 🙂

When I did this as a player, I deliberately made a character who was very separate and slightly opposed to my first character so that they would play very distinctly and separately. This was to help me make sure I wasn’t just using the second character to augment the first. It so far worked really well.

When another player tool a second character he decided to go the opposite route: the new character was a kind of Frankenstein’s monster created by the first. He has autonomy, but the creator does have some sway over the created. This also worked with no issues.
