I noticed that some classes have as low as 6 advanced moves for levels 2-5 and 6-10, and some have as high as 10. Is this a balance mechanism, or is it a way make a class flexible in terms of general to specific concept, or something else?

I know when I’m designing classes, personally, it’s more a matter of how many I can fit on a single page, and picking my favorites out of those.
I just counted and every class has 10 moves for levels 2-5, with the exception of the thief (9 adv. moves), the cleric (11 adv. moves) and the ranger (10 adv. moves + half elven).
It was mostly “what can Sage and Adam come up with?” We aimed for around 10, since that means two entirely distinct paths from 1-5, but it was hardly a matter of balance or concept.
