If anyone has any ideas as to either a) how backgrounds/jobs could be integrated into DW, or b) how these backgrounds could be converted into Playbooks, let me know!

Another homebrew background:

Constable

Originally a mediatory force between citizenry of Darkmoor and the embedded Western troops, a constabulary is employed by each of the four Provinces to keep the peace within their borders. These constables perform a variety of tasks including investigation of minor crimes, patrolling the major roads, and issuance of parking tickets. As a Constable gains experience they can expect assignments with a higher degree of responsibility. Once promoted to officer, a constable gains a level of autonomy, allowing them to freely roam the province, meting out justice as they see fit.

Jurisdiction: You are an officer of a provincial authority in Darkmoor. Upstanding citizens of the same province recognize your authority and influence, and will defer to your command. In cases where there is a clear threat to the province, the population, or Darkmoor itself, you can invoke your status to temporarily deputize civilians and requisition simple equipment, horses and vehicles for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to properties belonging to the authorities in the other three provinces, including the services of officers of lower rank, information, and facilities for research and/or recuperation.

Suggested Skills: Gather rumors, search, sense motive, and spot.

Suggested Equipment: Badge of office, traveler’s clothes, magnifying glass, one week’s worth of alert bulletins, manacles, whistle.

Hey Sage LaTorra, since you said you were on a “goofy kick”, I’m cross-posting a couple of D&D Next backgrounds I had homebrewed for our playtest campaign…

We just finished our last session. We got tired of Next and I’ve been working on converting the hacks I already made to DW!

I’ll post a few more…

Here’s a custom background I put together for a player in our Playtest campaign:

Agent of the Bureau

From the wizard of the Dept. of Predetermined Accidents, to a thug employed by the Dept. of Redistribution of Wealth & Property, the Bureau employs a wide range of departmental agents to operate on its behalf, maintaining balance and order within Darkmoor. Seen as necessary as death and taxes (though the latter is actually under jurisdiction of the national Thieves’ Guild), the Bureau is tolerated by the people of Darkmoor, as much as they try to steer clear of its agents. Fear that their name will cross a desk in the Dept. of Planned Longevity is an ever-present concern for those that have regular dealings with agents of the Bureau!

Authorisation: Common citizens generally give you a wide berth once your affiliation to the Bureau is revealed. You are licensed to commit minor criminal offenses in pursuit of a case, and law enforcement will overlook or forgive grievances like trespassing, interrogation, or minor theft; so long as you can convincingly attribute these actions to your job.

Suggested Skills: Intimidate, listen, recall lore (political lore), and search.

Suggested Equipment: Cryptic symbol, disguise kit, bullseye lantern, message cypher, bureau identification, invisible ink, pen, paper, 8gp, 6sp, and 12cp.

Getting VERY excited about converting our Darkmoor campaign setting over to DW.

Getting VERY excited about converting our Darkmoor campaign setting over to DW. Looking into making a few houseruled changes, one of which concerns the level 11+ game.

I’m considering offering my players two new options once they hit level 11. The first one involves a point system. At level 10, every 17xp earned gives the PC Fate Points (or something like that) which can be spent during gameplay. I haven’t figured this out entirely yet, but re-rolls seem like a traditional fit.

The second option is to allow the player to let their PC go down in a Blaze of Glory. When they’ve reached what would be level 11, they don’t earn any more xp but now have access to a move which basically lets them get the party through any one scenario, but their PC dies in the process. How this happens in the fiction would be completely up to the PC (within reason of course).
