I seem to remember a while ago i saw a class that had a summoning-esque move that went something along the lines of “Name one thing it is and one thing it isn’t… On a Miss, it either is what you said it isn’t or it isn’t what you said it is” or something like that.

Unfortunately, i am unable to find it where i’ve looked so far (Grim World, Inverse World, Class Warfare, and War&Wonders), so if anyone has any idea as to which class it came from, and/or the actual move text, could you please let me know? I loved the flavor that the move brought, and i’m trying to base another move off of that same creation style, but i’d like to get the original content right.

Anyone up for a one-shot around 6-7:00 EST tonight? The regular group that i GM decided to take the week off, so my evening is free. I’d like to play rather than GM, so comment below if you’re interested.

If there isn’t enough interest, i might just binge-“watch” DR, since i never really got into it.

Mark Weis is putting up a class for feedback called The Krasis. If anyone is interesting in providing some feedback let us know. #dungeonworld

I saw a while ago someone posted a compendium class about entering Death’s service. I had a Ranger die in my campaign, and the deal made from his 8 on LB was that Death would command him to kill someone of Death’s choosing. So far it’s been mechanized through the God Amidst the Wastes advanced move, but i’d like something a little more specific to Death.

After having only 3 sessions and already having two characters roll Last Breath (although the first one did make a rather stupid decision) i’m starting to worry that i’m making the world too tough for my players.

The first “Death” (Even though he rolled a 7-9) came about when the Ranger, during a lull in the fighting against an overwhelming number of cultists, decided to take advantage of the quiet by launching an arrow at one particular Sorcerer-Shaman-guy. This was responded with a Fireball, which the ranger promptly failed a DD to avoid, removing his last remaining hitpoint.

The second death, however, i take most of the blame for. She rolled an 11 on Last Breath, so it all worked out in the end, but afterwards she said she was frustrated out how things played out. Her (Cleric) and the Thief were fighting some Specters in the Priesthold underneath the temple (the same temple of the cultists from earlier) and she rolled a 7-9 a hack-n-slash. Not wanting to just keep hitting her for damage, i decided to Use the environment against them and use an effect of the Cult. The “divine” being Globner, Demigod of Blood, i had the Specter’s final act create an effect where she felt a certain bloodlust and wanted to attack the nearest thing. Then the Thief charged at the Specter, failed the attack, received the same effect, and tumbled into her. I told her that she felt the urge to try to murder him, and so she asked if she could supress it. “Finally” i thought to myself “I can have someone defy danger with WIS!” and so she did. She rolled an 8. I gave her a worse outcome, which is that the effect was slow to leave her, so she still must attack the thief this once. She failed. The thief dealt his damage back (being under the same bloodlust effect, we felt it made sense) and it was enough to drop her.

In hindsight, i suppose everything i did was in my moves and made sense from a rules perspective, but I worry that i have made the world too tough on a party that consists of a Ranger (Who is about to multiclass into Cleric, worshiping Death himself so cool!), a Thief, and a Cleric.

Any suggestions?

Anyone have any good ideas for puzzles in dungeons?

Anyone have any good ideas for puzzles in dungeons?

Anyone have any good ideas for puzzles in dungeons? im thinking something that can be used in most settings, from a nitty-gritty dungeon crawl to a Riddle Bridge.

To help get your creative juices flowing (and to show you what i already have), there is one that i am particularly fond of:

A room is empty save for a pedestal, about waist height on a man, in the center. On top of the pedestal sit 4 statuettes: a Bulette, Kraken, Dragon, and Griffin. The only way out is through a closed ironbound door with no lock and no handle. At each corner of the door is an alcove, about the dimensions of the statuettes. Bordering the alcoves are the (Magical, Divine, Dwarven, etc) runes for Earth, Air, Water, and Fire (Each alcove is bordered by a different element).

The only way to unlock the door is to place the correct statuette in the corresponding alcove (Bulette-Earth, Griffin-Air, Kraken-Water, Dragon-Fire). If one is misplaced, the statuettes are magically teleported back to the pedestal.

The version of this puzzle i’m running in my game is instead using a “tier” structure, because i’m making it so that they fight the monsters they got wrong (or one of them, chosen via d4). Tier 1 consists of: Derro, Sprite, Fire Eel, and Salamander. Tier 2: Roper, Griffon, Maggot-Squid, and Djinn. Tier 3: Ankheg, Manticore, Crocodillian, and Dragon Whelp. (all of these are from the base book because i don’t want to come up with a bunch of custom monsters).

When they get the puzzle wrong, the figurines go back and the monster(s) come out. The figurines, however, change to the next tier up. They won’t have to defeat the monsters to be able to put the figurines into the alcoves, but if they still get it wrong then the new monster will appear in addition to the one still in the room.

I have also seen this done with 8 slots (4 Elements, Life, Death, Light, Dark) and more uncommon monsters.

Please let me know if you have any favorite puzzles to give your players, or any comments you have about mine.

Cask of Potions

Cask of Potions

Cask of Potions

Maybe you just purchased a “Grab Bag” of interesting looking vials from a shady merchant in a dark alley. Perhaps you found a bunch of bottles and flasks from a magician’s workshop. Heck, you might have just put a few magical ingredients together and hoped for the best. Whatever the case may be, When you open a bottle from a Cask of Potions and drink its contents, roll+ CON.

• On a 10+, You receive the effects of option 1d6 from the potions on the first list.

• On a 7-9, You receive the effects of option 1d4 from the potions on the first list.

• On a miss, You guessed wrong, and the potion you drank is 1d4 of the options on the second list.

LIST 1

1: Antitoxin

2: Lesser Healing Potion (6 HP)

3: Potion of Fire Resistance

4: Stoneskin Potion (+2 Armor Ongoing, but -1 Ongoing to DEX)

5: Potion of Luck (Reroll the next failed roll, or maybe just +1 forward)

6: Potion of Vitality (Heal 10 HP and 1 Debility)

LIST 2

1/4: Firewater (1d4 damage ignores armor)

2/5: Poison (1d4 of the options from the Thief)

3/6: Weakness (Gain a debility)

4: 2d6 from the above (Yeah, you got the worst of the worst)

*Note that the above options and effects are open to your interpretation, and can be changed to better fit the scenario.*

I’ve been looking for a group to play (and someone else to GM) a campaign somewhat like Funnel World, only using the Villager class by Peter Johansen. Right now i’m just putting out feelers as to who might be interested, but if anyone’s looking for a rough estimate for time i was thinking sometime next week- After that i’m gone for a week and then i’ve got summer classes.
