Here’s an item my PCs might discover next session, based on (or, more accurately, stolen wholesale from) the manga Berserk:

Berserker Armor 3 armor, worn, clumsy, 4 weight

A suit of blood-stained black armor that allows its wearer to fight on past normal limits by nullifying pain. When you’re reduced to 0 HP but not killed outright (eaten by a dragon, stepped on by a giant, etc.), you may instead bump yourself up to 1 HP and delay taking your Last Breath until the end of combat. When you take your Last Breath, take -1 to the roll. You may delay your Last Breath up to five times per combat, taking -1 to the roll each time you do. If you delay a sixth time, you automatically fail your Last Breath.

True Blade

True Blade

True Blade

“Cursed should he be that forged the first blade. For what matter of evil did he desire to unleash, with this curse of death and power unto the unready world of mortals?” – Written reference to the True Blade.

At first glance, this sword looks to be a rusted piece of dark metal banged into a vague shape resembling that of a sword. It has no hand guard, and only an old piece of thin cloth wrapped around the poorly shaped grip. Despite its appearance, the blade’s edge never dulls, and holds history through all of existence, cutting the lives of men, monsters, demons and even gods.

Those that take up arms with this blade find it effective but nothing spectacular from any other sword. Those the blade itself has chosen to wield it, and help it fulfill its mysterious desire will discover this blade is unrelenting and can’t be stopped by any force, physical, magical or divine.

True Blade

(Close, +1 Armor Penetration)

Blade’s Champion

The blade chooses a champion, be it the person that finds it, or someone it knows will accept the task of helping it in its strange quest. When the champion holds the blade they can hear it speak to them, and give instruction or guidance on simple matters and those related to the quest. The blade acquires the ability to cut through steel, stone and magic while held by its champion.

Gain the tag “Ignores Armor” when carried by the champion, this tag applies to magical armor as well.

World Eater Scale Shield Close, +2 Armor, 2 Weight

This massive dragon’s scale had all the dermis and blood scraped off and some leather strapping woven on (nobody’s found out how to rivet the thing). When you Defy Danger against elemental attacks, or Hack and Slash by a Shield Bash, Treat a 6- as 7-9, a 7-9 as 10+, and if applicable, a 10+ as 12+.

The +1 Sword

(Close, +1 damage, Cursed)

This well crafted blade seems to be of exceptional quality, at least at first glance. Once it is used however, it is revealed to be quite average. It is also cursed, compelling the user to only wield it and no other weapon. While cursed, you can never bring any other weapon to bear and you treat all of your modifiers as +1.

Magic Items round 2!

Been thinking about a sword that is made of a “damascus” style sword made of layers of different metals folded into patterns, that was already of pretty good quality when it was introduced into the highly (magically) acidic environment that it has been residing in for about a thousand years. I’m looking to make it on par with That Sword that is not Excalibur in DW Core. Something like When you hack and slash with [the sword], on a 12+ you deal +1d6 damage without exposing yourself to the enemy’s attack, This attack may be treated as the more beneficial of an acid or poison attack. So the idea is that the sword has corroded some due to the environment. Maybe it can be corroded to the point of being a dagger instead?

So, what I ask of you, fellow tavern goers, is “What would you name a sword or dagger with the above properties?”

Working on my “Into the Heart of the Dragon” campaign (haven’t started yet) and I’ve had planned for a while, a jade orb planted in the middle of the town of Gullet that prevents certain environmental hazards from entering the area. Trouble is, I can’t think of a name. Anyone got any ideas?

Does anyone have ideas or price guides on PCs selling their loot back to shops?

Does anyone have ideas or price guides on PCs selling their loot back to shops? Or how much it should cost to purchase an enchanted sword etc.?

Thanks !

I’m a little new to making magical items and would really appreciate some insight as to how this sounds mechanically.

The Shoes of the Leaping Man

These shoes are embedded with the silhouette of a man in mid jump holding some sort of mysterious orb. These shoes allow the wearer to jump up to 100 vertical feet. When attempting to do so, roll+DEX. *On a 10+ you jump to your target with sure footing. *On a 7-9 choose one: your jump is too high, land with a thud and take 1d4 damage OR your jump is a little short, it’s up to you to find a handhold.

Thanks!

Kokiriko Lamp

Kokiriko Lamp

Kokiriko Lamp

The Kokiriko Lamp is made out of wrought iron twisted and curled into delicate shapes. It appears mundane, but it was forged with dragonfire and magic. At will, the user can absorb large amounts of flames into the chamber of the lamp and keep it there until it dies down on its own. A campfire or the light of several torches can be compressed into a small calm flame while the fire of burning buildings can be compressed into a raging firestorm the size of a fist. But no matter how much or little was absorbed, the user can’t do it again until after they expel everything in a directed blast of fire, or will it to fade slowly until it’s extinguished.

The lamp is a sacred artifact of the Kokiriko, simple humanoids with thin bodies of bark and wood. They were originally gifted the lamp to protect themselves and their forest home from fires. These stick figures half the size of a human only speak with clicks and whispery vowels in a language sounding a bit like their own name. And what emotions their wooden faces and large hollow eyes don’t show, they express with stilted and exaggerated gestures. They are hard to spot amongst the trees and in an emergency they can drain their own lifeforce to grow long vines and large leaves out of their bodies, but they are also seriously weakened by it.

The Kokiriko and their artifact were improvised in a session with my 10 year old player. I really enjoyed that session and the way the lamp came out so I thought I’d share the concept. This is exactly the way it appeared in the game and it worked for us, but I’m sure it could be improved and given custom moves or whatnot.

He used the lamp to fight a corrupted dragon in two phases, first in the tunnels of some old ruins and a large room resembling a theatre with pillars and balconies on different levels where he could use his rock shaping magic. And then later up in the sky above the forest flying on his large bird. (totally a Loftwing) After defeating and releasing the dragon from its corruption, he gave the lamp back to the Kokirikos, and true to the tradition of our campaigns we had a Kokiriko Festival montage.
