When you resist the overwhelming waves roll + STR. On a hit you are tossed to a dry, safe place.

On a 10+ choose both.

On a 7-9 choose 1.

On a 6- the waves do what they please.

-You do not lose anything valuable.

-You have sustained no major injuries.

  1. Format wise, you should stick the options after the 10+ result, for clarity.

Powerful move, I like it! Gives a unique flavor to the menace of the waves. I’d make a further suggestion to sharpen the miss result: “the sea takes what it wills”.

  2. A great move! It is very evocative and gives the players clear expectations of what might be at stake when they are rolling the dice.

I’d consider the trigger though – right now, it is triggered by something the waves do, instead of by PC action. Even simply rewording it to “When you are overcome by the waves” clarifies this – presumably they’ve failed something at the point of being overcome.

But perhaps i’d back up a beat in the fiction, to before the moment where they are assumed to be overcome: “When you resist the overwhelming waves….”

Then look at the hit condition – i’d make the first option you listed the default hit condition – winning that roll but still being stuck in the waves is a poor hit.

And i’d reconsider the middle option as well – they may risk losing moire than food: perhaps some item they carry, or their friends…

When you resist the overwhelming waves, roll + STR. On a hit, you are tossed to a dry, safe place. On a 10+, choose 1:

*You do not lose anything important.

*You do not sustain major injuries.

On a miss, the waves are not kind.
