The article is interesting and well worth reading. Even for non-Dungeon World types it has some excellent information.
This is good, but I kind of wanted it to continue going further.
I’ve never been a huge fan of DW-style bonds; I’m oddly also not a fan of Hx. Neither seem powerful enough — roll +1 (or so) to give a +1 doesn’t seem that great.
Some pbta hacks use them as a resource, which, well, maybe. Worlds in Peril does that, and I think it works well.
Good article. I would have loved to see it go into detail about what it means to “resolve” a bond. Does it mean it’s been rendered no longer true (I believe I saw Stephen Lumpkin GM it this way on itmejp’s channel). Or, does it trigger whenever it comes up?
Sean Looney — Good question, I will try to write a follow-up.
William Nichols — That’s an issue of different scope, the value of a +1 Forward, mechanically-speaking. In terms of probabilities, the answer is yes, it’s a significant boost, but it may not feel that way.
Yeah, +1 is meaningful. Having that go through a roll is where it gets less so, and, I find, distracting from the issue at hand.

— We make use of it to share the spotlight in dramatic scene, but it’s true that in very focused scenes it may kill momentum.
