Hi I have this idea of tinkering with a bennie/fate point mechanic and using it in place of some of the xp rules…(I was thinking of using xp rules from Barbarian of Lumeria…gain level after you describe what happened to your treasure at the end of an adventure) I was thinking of what in game effects could the bennies have or is this a bad idea all around?

  1. I think in general, the Powered by the Apocalypse games use XP as cookies to show what they want players to do.  AW uses them to showcase parts of their character (be super hot this session and you’ll level up!), Monsterhearts uses them to enforce social manipulation, and DW right now uses them to encourage people to fail (and to act according to their alignment, discover things, solve bonds, etc).

So I think that’s what you should think about; what do you want to encourage players to do, and would this system encourage people in the right way?
