As I understand it when it’s not specified it’s equivalent to “forward”.
Odd that wasn’t put in, I’d agree with Fred Hicks , then again you probably will be too busy with fighting to use much other skills. +1 ongoing is rather rare on the skills from what I remember so it’s not going to be seen much in the game if it’s right.

reading the move, I’d say that you get +1 to each discern realities test while in combat

When you discern realities in combat, you add one to the total. It’s not ‘forward’ it’s ‘whenever you do this thing, you get this bonus.’
Coolio; that’s what I meant by ongoing, but I see why that’s not really the best thing to call it.
I think the wording using ongoing would be:
Take +1 ongoing to Discern Realities in combat.
That kind of buries the lead, I think, which is probably why we worded it this way (but I don’t recall for sure).

+Sage LaTorra Well, ongoing stacks with other ongoing, but “in a fight/not in a fight” is binary so it doesn’t need to stack.
I mean, unless starting a war, sieging a castle, and facing a dude down in a swordfight gives you +3 to Discern Realities against him.
