So, Tim Franzke posted something about playing Wonder Woman as a Sky Dancer, and it got me thinking: what classes would you use to play superheroes? I personally think the themes of Inverse World are the best to explore this concept.

JLA

Superman: It’s tough to fit Superman into just one class, but I’d probably say Sky Dancer for him, seeing as flying’s really important to him. Alternatively, make him a Golem (a good fit if you also want Wonder Woman in the group) to focus more on the Man of Steel aspect (pun totally intended).

Batman: I think the Collector is the best fit here. “But what about the Walker!” I hear you say. I have one response: utility belt. Add in Wealth and Taste for his alter ego, and Curiosity for the super-sleuthing and it’s a good fit.

Wonder Woman: I agree with Tim here, Sky Dancer works well to capture the flavor.

Green Lantern: Lantern, duh. Not much to say here.

The Flash: The Walker. Take the Great Nations Training and re-flavor so you’re running up walls and ceilings.

Aquaman: I think Survivor’s the best choice out of the bunch, especially if you choose the “limb replaced” option to get a hook. Alternatively, you could be a Captain, who hails from cities within the Cloud Seas. (Bonus: the Captain can also get a hook for a hand!)

Martian Manhunter: Putty Golem or a Rainlord, to focus on the mutability and alien nature. A divine messenger is probably as close as you’ll get to a Martian in Invells.

Now, to fully capture the flavor of each class, you’ll probably want to take advantage of the multiclass moves each class has. Let me know what you think!

  1. I was trying to keep them to IW classes, but I see what you mean. I think the problem is that each hero is typically too BIG to be one class. Like Supes as a Paladin mostly works, but then there’s the “get somewhere quickly” thing that the Sky Dancer does so well. Also, Supes doesn’t really wear armor, so he’d have to pick up the Unarmored, Unencumbered move from the Barbarian.

  2. I want this for Marvel… I mean, everyone knows The Mechanic is Iron Man/Tony Stark, right?

But Wonder Woman, I don’t think I’d make her a Sky Dancer. Does the Sky Dancer have some “reveal the truth” powers I don’t remember? Because Wonder Woman’s thing, to me, is not her ability to fly (which comes from her airplane, and is so small a part of her, I never even remember it), but her wisdom and strength, and her dedication to uncovering the truth.

I’d make WW a Lantern, and her Little Light is her lasso of truth (with a Light Weaponry move customization to be a lasso instead of arrows/sword).

  3. Wonderwoman can fly because of the power of Hermes invested in her/her half god heritage.

The lasso is a magic item.

You would mostly use moves that show your tactical mastermind or superior physical abilities. I did a quick overlook and it works.

  4. So, since 1985…. OK. I’m old now. Most of my WW lore is from the TV series and the Saturday morning cartoon.

I still suggest Lantern. WW can now make solid objects out of light– totally lanterny!

  5. Yeah, there’s different aspects of each hero that you can focus on with different playbooks, definitely. Batman would make a good Walker as well, and WW a good Lantern.

  6. Wouldn’t Superman be The Survivor? Incredibly tough, highly damaged and damaging. Multiclass Skydancer to fly and there you go. He’s also, you know, the LAST Kryptonian alive, or at least he usually is.

  7. Jacob Randolph when you say it like that it makes sense. I don’t know why i didn’t think of Supes as the Survivor. Maybe the whole Eternal Mark thing didn’t fit in with the “perfect image of humanity” thing? Either way, it does make sense.
