Well done Jeramy Ware! You are obviously comfortable with impro GMing. What a great tale riffing off what the players give you and your own ideas.
Could you share with us some of your techniques on how you go about it? Did you have a map of the town or dungeon for instance? Did you grab the agents out of the NPC lists or did you just make them up on the fly? Or did you roll on the loot tables to generate the golden statue?
What moves in particular (both player and GM) to lean on in order to generate the ‘setting’ in play?
Oooh, and fronts! What fronts are you dabbling in now that you can prep for the second session?
Hope you feel better too 🙂
Thanks, I’m not ignoring you, but I have a 12 hour shift that I have to get up for in 5 hours, so I just wanted to pop in and say I will answer in more detail, but it’ll probably not be until at least tomorrow night, maybe Saturday morning depending on how crazy my patients are 🙂
Ha! That’s fine. I know what you mean, I have a 12 hour shift tomorrow (and the next 5 days). Patients are ALWAYS crazy 😉
Since you guys also play Fate, i d be interested in how you think about how these games compare?
Nathan Roberts Sorry it took me so long. I started writing a response to your question, but it got really long, so I rewrote it as a blog post. It still doesn’t completely answer your question, but I’ll work on it more tomorrow. You can find the post here if you are interested: http://adventuresinrpgs.blogspot.com/2014/04/improv-gming-part-1.html
Thanks Jez 🙂
Very Insightful blog by the way.
I too think that the key form of prep to cut straight to the good stuff is to have some idea of what the antagonism wants from the PCs and then have that at odds with their agenda. Great advice!
