So I’m looking to play a monk type character in an upcoming game. I was curious what my options were other than the Initiate and the themed basic playbooks.
I know I could basically flavor anything to that effect, but I’m just curious about playbooks I don’t know about.
In fact, maybe a more accurate question is: what kind of options are there for a “Far East” themed character?
I know this might sound jerkish, but: every base class works as a “Far East” themed character.
Just change the names, maybe the looks, maybe the bonds. Some of the character moves (like those for the cleric for her deity) might need reflavoring, but they all work.
If you want to go a little more extreme: there was an idea floating around a while back about replacing the Race moves with Kung Fu School moves.
No, not jerkish at all. I know I can reflavor, I was just wondering about specifically made playbooks I didn’t know about.
Somebody rethemed all the core playbooks to eastern flavour some time ago. Dont have the links though. Sage LaTorra?
The Monk I wrote can be found here: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/127110/Dungeon-World-Lore-and-Lords-Pack
If you’ve got the second Inglorious preview, there’s a hack in there for the Fighter which makes it work a bit more like a martial artist – they get a technique instead of a signature weapon, etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone and sorry I haven’t replied back sooner – work has been killer. I had somehow missed the Battle mind, which seems like the perfect class book for what I want to play.
Also Peter Johansen I will purchase that later today!
