I haven’t seen them in a game but don’t the gambits brake the fiction? And do the extra incentives to roll misses skew player behaviour in weird ways?
Only if you have trouble improvising. If you have a player that can work out the plan within the game then no it’s no problem. The one time I saw it in play the player was great. Kept it simple. And as for the incentive to miss, I’ve not run into that issue due to the fact that if my players miss a roll they pay for it.
