Anyone have any play experience with the various magic user classes out there? I was thinking on replacing Wizard with one of them for my next game.
Maybe Jacob Randolph ‘s Mage (or now the Mage sub-classes) or Adrian Thoen’s Sorcerer. Anyone use those in a game and have any reviews or opinions on how it went?
My wizard complains that he can’t memorize more spells. I remind him he is level 3 and to get over it. He is dealing ranged dmg and took the AOE effect so he is wiping the floor with minion type mobs. I think its pretty awesome because it allows him to be creative with his spell descriptions and he alters them on his mood. Fun stuff. GL Guy!
I have GMd for a Wizard and a Mage. The mage always has more fun. Most of the time the Wizard of the group wants to use his spell for effects that they are not intended for, and gets frustrated that they can’t do XYZ because the spell only do one thing. Most of the time I have to hand wave the rules and let the wizard do things that are awesome but technically not doable by the class. If they were playing a mage it wouldn’t be an issue. So if you desire creativity and imaginative ways to use magic the play the Mage.
I enjoy the mage, I have GMed for a time mage and that was fun because if he failed that gave me such a wide range of things me as the gm can do
For any spell the wizard doesn’t have, there is the Ritual. That essentially lets you do anything, albeit you do have restrictions when it can be performed.
Guy don’t forget David Guyll’s Vancomancer (http://goo.gl/8ooBex). This just came out and it looks awesome. There is also Adrian Thoen’s Spellslinger (http://goo.gl/2mxC4b).
Thanks Marques Jordan I will check them out
To a lesser extent, I don’t think they’re finished, there is David Schirduan’s Allomancer (http://goo.gl/r5hvAu) and Ferumancer (http://goo.gl/gh7NyR).
Can anyone offer a review of the Vancomancer or Spellslinger? I’d like to get some opinions before I purchase. Thanks.
Alex Leabrook do you find the Spellslinger to be any less fun for its non-combat abilities?
That sounds extremely intriguing. I’ve heard there is often overlap between the Wizard and Mage, which really sucks as I enjoy them both. I think I might have to pick this playbook up now. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts ^_^
Anyone have any experience playing the Vancomancer?
