Anyone have any play experience with the various magic user classes out there?  I was thinking on replacing Wizard with one of them for my next game.

Maybe Jacob Randolph ‘s Mage (or now the Mage sub-classes) or Adrian Thoen’s Sorcerer.  Anyone use those in a game and have any reviews or opinions on how it went?

  1. My wizard complains that he can’t memorize more spells.  I remind him he is level 3 and to get over it. He is dealing ranged dmg and took the AOE effect so he is wiping the floor with minion type mobs.  I think its pretty awesome because it allows him to be creative with his spell descriptions and he alters them on his mood.  Fun stuff. GL Guy!

  2. I have GMd for a Wizard and a Mage. The mage always has more fun. Most of the time the Wizard of the group wants to use his spell for effects that they are not intended for, and gets frustrated that they can’t do XYZ because the spell only do one thing. Most of the time I have to hand wave the rules and let the wizard do things that are awesome but technically not doable by the class. If they were playing a mage it wouldn’t be an issue. So if you desire creativity and imaginative ways to use magic the play the Mage.

  3. That sounds extremely intriguing. I’ve heard there is often overlap between the Wizard and Mage, which really sucks as I enjoy them both. I think I might have to pick this playbook up now. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts ^_^
