The party’s elven sharpshooter just got enough XP to switch class today. he wants to take the Artificer class. I said I’d come ask for suggestions for an Elven artificer racial move.
So, anybody got any suggestions?

Something to do with natural/primal energy and wood. Maybe they can ask the nature spirits to lend their aid to power a wooden artifice?
Can’t he keep his old racial move? Would be less work.
Tim Franzke the old racial move hinges on a class move he no longer has. A conversion would be to give his gadgets 1 piercing, but that seems a little boring.
When an elf is reduced to 0-charge, they can spend a moment to draw 1-charge from the ley lines of the land, provided they pledge to restore it.
Perhaps his gadgets are always beautiful or elegant, making them more coveted or impressive.
He could keep the old racial and the class move it connects to.
I would take a cue from the Elves in Burning Wheel: they use spell-songs to imbue their crafts with great power. That’s how they have things like elven rope, elven cloaks, or the
Phial of Galadrielflask of light. So maybe there’s a standard list of tags that the elf can apply to any item they imbue with power.
All his creations ignore the tags Clumsy or Heavy
Maybe instead of a racial move, give him a move to reflect his time spent in his previous class. Since it was something he spent some time doing, it could make sense that his previous training is still part of how he does things.
Or maybe add an additional tag for Healing from a Natural or Alchemical Gadget.
good suggestions all 🙂
The reason he can’t just keep his old move is because he was a shortshooter, a bow specialist, and in the transition, ended up losing a hand, foot and eye. He became an artificer as a natural transition because he used to make amazingly engineered arrows, but now can’t shoot a bow anymore.
but he can build himself some AWESOME CYBER-IMPLANTS to substitute the boring, normal, biological parts he lost!
Don’t give him an Elf Artificer move. Make it an HIM artificer move. What makes him different from all the artificers?
“You get a cool robort arm with an imbedded small crossbow (1 weight, near, can only store 1 ammo)
A skul-gun
WAIT! I’ve got it. Elves, when they’re not being all fast and swishy, are all about keen senses. So an Elf artificer should have some kind of boost to Let Me See That. Gets to ask more questions, or their own special question…
I would have it be an extra question that keys off of the artificer’s preternatural faculties, especially because they’re an elf. They can push the boundaries of what would normally be expected.
Maybe “two questions off the list, or any one question of your own devising”?
any question, as long as you are checking ammunition?
The options
“How old is this?”
“Where did it come from?”
“What magic flows from this?”
or
“When you are using a gadget which is substituting a body part, you can roll +DEX for Field Test instead of +INT”
