Tonight I will be running my very first Dungeon World game, so I figured I would share my experiences getting prepared for it. I know there is a lot of advice here already, but if you had one bit to share with someone running their first game, what would it be?

  1. Think of the game as an action movie.  Picture the scenes in your head, and remember how action movies keep ramping up the action, throwing new twists and turns at the heroes.

  2. Go int oit with very little preconceptions… start out in the action and when the fight ends ask them what the hell they are doing in the Dungeon anyways… and boom, your story is born.

  3. Refresh yourself with an Indiana Jones movie – the escalation in these films read like a dungeon world session, where a hard move is just around the corner waiting to spring out.

Get yourself a list of fantasy names to crib off for places and NPC’s.

And, of course, ask lots of questions!
