Today’s minor DW revelation: the GM’s choice to make a hard move vs. a soft move can be a huge element in determining tone for a game.
Adventure Time? All soft moves.
Warhammer Fantasy? All hard moves.
Most D&D games fall somewhere in-between.

It scares me you’re still having minor revelations…
It’s mostly just seeing little things in a new light. I’d never considered this particular facet.
They grow so fast don’t they? wink wink.
One of these days Adam’s going to read Dw and go “hey, this game’s alright, I’m glad I wrote it!”
Secondary revelation: Sage LaTorra is a douche-nozzle.
Again, kind of slow on the uptake…
We need to stop fighting in front of the kids.
I now want to know who would win the fight…
TWO MEN ENTER, ONE MAN LEAVES!
It would be the saddest fight in the history of fights.
I think the internet at large would love to see a slap-fight between you and Sage.
Having destroyed traditional gaming and D&D, Adam and Sage finally turn on each other.
Sagefight happened GenCon 2011. I don’t remember who won. Not me, probably.
The fact that you called it Sagefight instead of Adamfight tells us all we need to know.
Sean Dunstan if you seek to destroy gaming, first you must destroy yourself.

I was unaware of this. I now feel enlightened.
It is the art of drunken GenCon mastery.
I’m confused. What are hard and soft moves? Are these in the game? I thought there was weapon speed factors. Is those hard and soft moves? Are he in game? Teh game? Teh gamez? I like this post on Google+ it shows initiative and pretty. You should post more like this on Google+. It is hard and soft?
Oh god we lost Cam!
What the hell just happened to Cam Banks?
Also: Classic Gygax adventure? ALL HARD MOVES, EVEN ON SUCCESS!
It’s okay. I read some Rules Cyclopedia and now I’m all better.
Join the hard men making hard moves in a hard game about hard times in hard dungeons.
Come play Dungeon World and get your hard on.
Wait…
Um…that’s what she said?
“On second thought, let’s not go to the Dungeon World Tavern. Tis a silly place.”
That is one of the things I love. Want to run a monster but not have it destroy them, you can do it. Want to make it harder, easy to do on th fly.
Things I have learned … I GM a lot of Warhammer.
And because of the tone of the rest of the thread: This is not my hammer. The hammer is my HARD MOVE.
so much win
Nikitas Thlimmenos and Flavio Pintarelli should read this post.
How do you adjust the amount of hard moves? Most of the time they occur because of a failed roll, right? So how can you have less, or more, of them?
Rig the dice.
Make players roll unexpectedly. “Trying to catch the serving girl’s attention for another ale, huh? In this crowded place? In that outfit? Sounds like you’re defying danger!”
Do that. A lot. It’s hard, you will need to be steadfast.
