Dungeoneering: When creating a dungeon are there any principles or fundamentals to consider before or during the creation process? What are good things to keep in mind while making a dungeon to appeal to all the characters in the party, with regard to puzzles, mobs and mystery?

I am running a campaign that involves traveling through a very large forest and I have a question for anyone who has run a similar style of game.
The characters are not using the undertake a perilous journey but actually traveling through the forest. My question is how can I spice things up in ways other than just throwing mobs at the party?
I have a player who frequently shape shifts as a druid into different animals.
I have a player who frequently shape shifts as a druid into different animals. How do you guys deal with the holds and acquired moves and stats if they gain any?
Also. How do you deal with the character’s inventory and belonging/weapons?
Just curious. I am looking for ideas because at this point it has been very “loosly” handled by myself, the DM, of this particular campaign.
We just finished up our session – One player couldn’t make it which sometimes makes it difficult.
We just finished up our session – One player couldn’t make it which sometimes makes it difficult. The other players encountered a Dire Bear and with the help of the Druid in the Party had a pack of Wolves to help them lay waste to the large beast.
Before they could however the bear had struck the druid hard enough to break her arm posing a new problem for the group.
The final blow on the dire bear was dealt by the Wizard who cast magic missile. The spell is described as being a large glowing ball of energy. He launched the spell at the muzzle of the beast breaking it’s jaw and nose. The wolves saw the opening and all jumped in to claim the kill.
The session was great. The players were very creative and I even had a few opportunities for them to use their classes abilities. They all did great and most are now level 2.
I am really happy that I took the time to think out all the more general aspects of the area and creatures as well as people they would encounter. It made my GM rolls VERY simple to do which essentially gives the players a more streamlined experience.
Many of the GRIM PORTENTS pertaining to the overarching plot of the campaign are now checked off. Things are about to get VERY exciting.
Getting ready to get the @Dungeon_World campaign started back up today with @RPjeana and out other players.
Getting ready to get the @Dungeon_World campaign started back up today with @RPjeana and out other players. Last week my players encountered this – It spoke like a human after its head went limp and hung to the side.
