Hybridization Brew

Hybridization Brew

Hybridization Brew

This strongly smelling potion needs a little work to be useful: you have to marinade a freshly harvested body part in it. The essence of the creature infuses the brew and, when you drink it, you get to use two of its moves. At the GM’s option, your appearance may change drastically for the duration of the effect (from a whole day to a few minutes, depending on the powers gained).

200 coins (fresh, no bits inside), 0 weight.

When found, a brew is often infused with the essence of a giant spider, a golden eagle, or a wood elf.

I wonder how a party comprised solely of wizards would fare?

I wonder how a party comprised solely of wizards would fare? If I wasn’t so shy about running in English, I’d propose such a game for  #wizardweek : say level 3 characters, to allow for variety with multi-classing and compendium classes.

Of course, if somebody was into running such a game, I’d be happy to play 😉

The feedback on my Beholder was so helpful, I thought I’d share another classic monster. Does this work for you?

This Planarch codex is so cute it made me want a pocket version of DW. So I’m hacking away now…

Another attempt at a D&D staple, complete with custom move. What to you people think, too dangerous?

So russ nicholson posted some old Fiend Folio pictures on his blog today. I realised that, in 30 years of gaming and five editions of D&D, I had never seen a Dark Creeper in play. I thought I could remedy to that in tomorrow’s DW game…

This is my first fully written monster, feedback welcome.

Inspiration for this comes from a conversation earlier in the Tavern.

The Orange Grimoire

This wondrous item looks like a box with a grid of alphabetic keys, a small screen and a handle.

When you explain your predicament and press the button marked ‘Spell’, roll +INT

On 10+, the Orange Grimoire speaks a spell. The GM decides what effect it has.

On 7-9, the spell cast has one or more side effects.

On 6-, you forget a useful word forever. The GM chooses which one.

Sharing my own post to go into further DW-related detail. This was the first real session in my Keep on the Borderlands 1983 setting. Thanks to the Ask Questions principle and some very creative players, this lean sandboxy idea of mine has turned into a potential campaign of epic proportions.

After a couple hours of play time, this rag-tag group of rather inefficient adventurers has set out to find a fallen star. This relic should lead them to discovering who among them is destined to become the traveling companion of a godly avatar. The fun thing is that nobody among the priesthood of said deity has the slightest idea of what he stands for.

Fuck the game, I’m just gonna write a novel on this premise! 😉

I ran my first game via Hangout and Roll20 It was a lot of fun, and my experience as a player helped me work out the kinks.

We started with an ambush by kobold bandits, had some typical social interaction in the village and when we left our bold adventurers, they were about to explore the cellars of the Keep on the Borderlands, looking for giant rats…

#DungeonWorld  with five players makes for exhausting fights though.
