Ever need to whip up a steading quickly on the fly? I built a Dungeon World Steading generator. It’s even open to the community members adding new content, so we can get new and surprising features or problems for our steadings 🙂

Has anyone noticed the language in Aid or Interfere? “When you help or hinder someone you have a bond with“. Rules as Written one could interpret that as not being able to Aid or Interfere at all with someone you don’t have a bond with. Just curious if anyone has interpreted it that way.

I had an idea of how to run Bonds more efficiently, especially in games where players drop in and out of the campaign (West Marches style, for example). I like Bonds more than Flags because I feel that Bonds foster better inter-character role-playing. It’s hard to remember another character’s Flag, but you typically do remember your own Bonds, and this tweak should help you remember them even more.

Bonds

When you make your character’s Bonds, write them down on index cards instead of your character sheet. Use a separate index card for each character in the session.

Start of Session Move

At the start of a session, take your Bond index cards for the characters that are participating in the session. Now, note the number of available Bonds in your Playbook. If the total number of Bonds in your index cards is less than your available Bonds, you can add one new Bond with one of the characters in the session.

Here’s an idea I came up with to get some quick world building done during the first session of a campaign.

When you build a piece of the world, roll +INT.  Continue taking turns defining world features until everyone has had a turn, and there is at least one positive, negative, and terrain feature created.

• On a 10+, create a positive features on the map.  This can be a friendly fortress, safe haven steading, or other bastion of the precarious civilization.

• On a 7-9, create a region of terrain on the map, such as a forest, desert, sea, or mountain range.

• On a 6 or less, create a negative feature on the map.  This can be the stronghold of a lich king, a cursed barrow mound, a forsaken dungeon complex, etc.  These sites invariably contain wealth and artifacts ripe for adventurers to plunder.

It turns out my campaign front is revolving around dark forces and devil worshiping cults.

It turns out my campaign front is revolving around dark forces and devil worshiping cults.  Here’s a custom move I plan to use.  Originally I wrote it for a specific book, but I thought I’d generalize it.

When you spend a day of downtime reading from the blasphemous pages of a vile book, roll +WIS.  On a success the GM will tell you a valuable and useful piece of secret information regarding the book’s subject.  On a 7-9 select one below:

• You read about a particularly disgusting ritual, take the Sick Debility (cannot choose this if you are already Sick).

• You read about infernal forces, the knowledge of which plagues your thoughts.  Take the Confused Debility (cannot choose this if you are already Confused).

• A foul presence touches your mind.

• The book disintegrates in your hands.

My idea for the foul presence is that a diabolical force will gain 1 Hold on the PC, and can claim that Hold to cause the PC to perform an action that it desires at a later time.

Here’s a Ranger story.

Here’s a Ranger story.

Here’s a Ranger story.  The Ranger and his wolf companion were charging a tower that housed crossbowmen who were shooting through arrow slits.  Failing a Defy Danger DX I narrated how the wolf was pegged with a bolt.  The Ranger could come to the wolf’s aid and expose himself to fire, or continue to the tower wall out of the range of the crossbowmen.  The Ranger chose to save his own skin, abandoning his animal companion.  The Barbarian then tried to save the wolf but failed.  The wolf was peppered with bolts and killed.  At the end of the session the Barbarian wrote a new bond … “The Ranger is a selfish jerk.”
