no one’s posting monsters anymore!
no one’s posting monsters anymore! They’re my favorite part of the game. I’m currently filing all the monsters from my campaign. Usually descriptions take the longest time, but here I felt inspired.

Long story short: our party’s paladin is inspired by green lantern (arcane green lantern from infinite crisis, to be precise). But he’s blue, member of the Guardians of the Infinity and the only protector of the material plane (they come one per plane; when a guardian dies, he reincarnates in a newborn of his own plane). Next quest treasure:
the Infinity Lantern
Holy Symbol, 1-Handed
A magic lantern shaped like the infinity symbol, with glowing light sources in both holes. Comes with a chain to be wielded.
While you’re wielding the Infinity Lantern, you and friendly creatures nearby take +1 armor.
When you raise the lantern to light the way, roll+WIS.
On a 10+, the lantern indicates you the safest route.
On a 7-9, choose one:
– it will also need you to prove worthy once again
– the safest route is the slowest and most distant
– someone notices the lantern’s light
So, I played DW tonight with my gf.
So, I played DW tonight with my gf. That is, Larethe, a lonely elven ranger, her only friend her huge white wolf, Raaka (she discovered princess mononoke not so long ago and it was love at first sight). She protects the black forest from necromancers, which corrupt creatures and trees, and from her own elven kingdom, where the mad elven king stole necromantic secrets to increase his power. I suggested her to start with a fellow npc, and she created the weak and coward Sir Alister, son of Lord Piotr, ruler of Tanner’s Ford, a coastal city where all the worst representatives of the four races gathered together. He fell in one of her traps and she tried to get him into the safety of his castle, while fighting various giant necro-monsters (she ended at 3 hp, weakened and with a broken arm), and meeting with the Hermit of the Forest, so old he forgot his name and his race. This was all created by her during the usual Q&A. We had a great time together, like a romantic evening with dice.
Guys, take your gf and play this game with her. You won’t regret it. Especially the aftermath.
So thinking about fixed damage.
So thinking about fixed damage. Playing world of dungeons last night with its 12+ extra success result and loving the I/M/S damage system of burning wheel, I came up with this for my upcoming houserule-heavy conanesque campaign.
Damage is a fixed value. Every class has a damage value equal to half the maximum result of its normal damage die (d4 = 2, d6 = 3 and so on). The weapon’s bonus damage and general fixed bonus damage apply as normal. Bonus damage from spells, moves and other buffs expressed in dice works like class damage (half the max result).
Hack ‘n’ Slash
On a 7+, you deal your damage.
12+: you deal one and a half your damage, rounded down.
10-11: you can choose to deal one and a half damage, rounded down, but expose yourself to the enemy’s attack.
7-9: choose one: you deal half your damage, rounded up; or you expose yourself to the enemy’s attack.
When halving or multiplying damage, start from the normal class damage plus any bonus damage as base, then calculate the actual damage. Every other move will be modified accordingly to match this system. Probably nerfing HP for both characters and monsters to balance things out and actually having a deadlier atmosphere.
Another example:
Magic Missile’s damage is 5.
On a 12+ on spellcasting, the spell’s effect is enhanced (so 7 damage for a MM).
On a 10-11 you can choose to enhance the spell’s effect, but you have to choose one of the three standard options for a roll of 7-9.
On a 7-9, you have an extra option: the spell’s effect is reduced (so 3 damage for a MM).
What do you think?
So, how often do you provide an opportunity without cost when they give you a golden opportunity?

So, the latest first session ended with the dwarven slayer imprisoned in a demiplane of nothingness with Balaur, a mighty dragon. Here’s him and his three brothers:
Balaur, the green dragon, lord of earth, forests, rivers, poisons and diseases; it’s the most deadly one. Three heads, amphibious, burrowing but flightless, similar to a giant crocodile, full of horns and fins, covered in vegetation, moss, mushrooms and parasitical beings.

Vishap, the blue dragon, lord of seas, lakes, skies, winds, storms and lightnings; it’s the most destructive one. Body of a very long snake, third eye in the forehead, six rapacious legs, four feathered wings and a horned, fanged beak.

Kulshedra, the red dragon, lord of mountains, caves, fires, volcanos, and smoke; it’s the most evil one. Classic dragon body, bat wings, lion mane, beard and other hairy stuff around, fangs and horns everywhere, two giant snake heads coming off his tail.

Dragons fought against the dwarves in the war of ages; the latter eventually killed all of the dragon mothers. The dragon warriors’ vengeance was terrible, but the war ended with no winners, the dwarves decimated, the dragons totally without females. But while the dwarves grew strong again in time, the dragons faded one by one, killed by heroes, by other dragons, or just falling in eternal slumber. Only these three are known to be alive and active by the wisest ones.
I know it’s wizard week, but we have no wizards in our current campaign! 😛
I know it’s wizard week, but we have no wizards in our current campaign! 😛
This CC grew from a discussion with the fighter’s player, who comes from 3.5. I was explaining to him why having Merciless, Scent of Blood and Improved Weapon (and Viper’s Strike) all together is actually balanced, because balance in DW is something different from what balance means in games like D&D, and hacking scent of blood to do +1d6 damage instead of +1d4 because it’s conditional would be nonsense. Then I had this insight: if the fighter is the king of damage, the slayer is the emperor! They need MORE STACKING DAMAGE!
I present you
THE SLAYER
When you when you seek redemption by death in combat, the next time you level up, you can take this move:
Trollslaying
When you attack a formidable opponent, you deal +1d4 damage.
If you have Trollslaying, you can take these moves when you level up.
Giantslaying
Replaces: Trollslaying
When you attack a formidable opponent, you deal +1d8 damage.
Dragonslaying
You have +1 armor against formidable opponents.
Daemonslaying
When you kill an opponent, you may deal your damage to nearby opponents.

Apprentice
Spellcasting: an apprentice knows spells for a total of spell levels equal to their ability score. They can cast each spell once; after being cast, a spell is forgotten until the next time you make camp and the apprentice is left alone restoring their power.
