Sorry, another DW / Cult of the Reptile God question:
For those familiar with Cult of the Reptile God, what are some good opening moves to get PCs tied to the adventure for a four-hour one-shot game?

Anyone have any good monster conversions for evil humanoids?
Anyone have any good monster conversions for evil humanoids? I’m in need of some cultists and cult leaders for my Against the Cult of the Reptile God conversion. A naga would be nice too =)

Ageless Shabrahim, fleshblender and innkeeper of Ditchwater Manor, has learned of these opportunities for independent folk of nerve and fortune.
1) The postal franchise for Ditchbiggin, under the aegis of the venerable Starfish automaton Hulushi, seeks reliable practitioners of streetcraft for irregular deliveries and retrievals in Ditchbiggin and environs.
Pay varies with the distance traveled and the weight of the cargo. As a benchmark, J30 are currently offered to any who will deliver documents from the Prime Consigliere to the hand of the alchemist Bence Cellenni. Celleni is currently believed to be at work in his laboratory at 22 Feather, Ring, Ditchbiggin.
Reliable and fleet subcontractors may be considered for salaried employment on trunk routes.
2) The Rat-thing insurance adjuster Lucena seeks bold and proficient transplanars for a expedition to the Near Chaos beyond Halihaven Parish. Their task will be to independently verify the fate of the MVS Golden Rule for the purposes of claim arbitration.
Experience in naval salvage law a must; experience in Chaos navigation an asset. All reasonable expenses paid with a J250 bonus for delivery of satisfactory documentation to the arbitrator.
Be advised that the sale of salvage rights to the Golden Rule has been authorized.
3) A gatesick ape-lady refugee from some dinky chow-plane pleads that someone, anyone, rescue her family from the terrors of the Bastille Labyrinth. The Labyrinth is apparently a borderlands now. Chow-plane refugees are wandering straight into it, poor fuckers. As you might expect, this one pays strictly in goodwill.

Design note: I figured I’d seed the list with one mundane and cheap job, one lucrative and risky job, and one A-Team style “If you have a problem, if no one else can help” job.
AP: our ape-lady refugee accosted the paladin in public so of course the party took up her job. She led them into the Labyrinth, relying on her cybernetic computer glasses to navigate to her injured family’s hiding place. Alas, she didn’t respect the environment enough and got skragged by a puppet spider. So they’re pretty much fucked now.
I am gonna have to tell you guys all about S’s character when I get time, he is a hybrid ink pudding / human and the things he draws come true.
Idea: use a Voroni diagram as the basis for our campaign’s emerging Dis parish map.

Neat!
Hello
Hello,
A little question about Multiclass Dabbler gaining level. A fighter casting wizard spells is considered a one lower level wizard for that. But is he also considered a Wizard when gaining levels ? I mean, does he gets new spells in his book as a Wizard do ? The example p31 is not very clear about that.
I’ve not tested it yet, but a fighter taking wizard spells as the first advanced move seems überpowered, maybe even more with cleric spells.
Those who have played it, what is your opinion ?
Well, I just finished the first session with a new group.
Well, I just finished the first session with a new group. A friend from high school surprised me by starting a board game night at his house a few months ago, and they asked if I’d run something tonight. So, I grabbed my new hardcover and introduced four people to the hobby tonight 🙂 After leading them through the rather enjoyable character creation, we ended up with a barbarian, druid, thief, and ranger.
I started actual play with, “You all wake up lying in a pile of bones; a long shaft extends upwards. Did you jump down here on purpose, or were you thrown down?”, and then went from there.
As these players were totally new to RPGs, this first session was mostly them exploring a small dungeon and getting used to the whole ‘playing as a character’ thing. One rope-bridge-turned-ladder later (their idea), we had a nice split party fighting off a horde of skeletons and a devourer.
Now that the players mostly understand how the game works, we’ll return next week to the party exiting the ruins, badly wounded but alive, ready to explore this world together.
Wow. First game under the belt. I’ll post more tomorrow, but here’s my quick review.

So. Much. Easier. Seriously, 10 minutes talking about the moves and tone differences of the game, 2 minutes on the lack of rounds in combat, 30 minutes on character creation and high-level game planning. 15 minutes on bonds. 5 minutes on starting moves and equipment and we were playing… for 3 hours. Based on two comments and one additional idea I added in.
And after a harrowing experience chasing down cultists, freeing their priest before she’s sacrificed to demons, fighting a stone-skinned guardian, loosing the high cultist, and being crushed nearly to death by the demonic hand rising from the pit, the party has reached a decision point… descend through the pit and find what’s down there, or chase off after the high cult priest who knows who the characters are and the secret they are hiding — and will stop at nothing to shut them up.
I had a feeling the first time I read it it would play this way… and it was great to see it actually come together.
Maybe I missed something but all I can find are the PDFs.

Know Thy Enemy
When you face an opponent of a type you’ve fought before, roll +WIS. On a 10+ hold two, on 1 7-9 hold 1. Spend your hold 1-for-1 for the following effects against that monster type:
– Ignore 1 point of their armor
– Counteract a move they make
– Do 1d4 more damage
– Reduce damage you take from an attack by your WIS
