I can’t believe I hadn’t already shared this: Dungeon World cover artist Nate Marcel is making comics and you can help. First comic will be Dangertide, which sounds ripe for gaming, and he’s already released cool stuff like a wonderful Dangertide map.

What I’m saying is you should back this too. Seriously.

Looks like the Dungeon World Codex is down. We got DoS-ed by what appears to be some kind of weird crawler. A Mozilla/Windows user agent hit every link it could find at roughly half-second intervals viewing every single monster page.

We don’t have crawling blocked and haven’t had a problem in the past, so I’m thinking this is just some rogue agent. It’s funny to imagine someone caring enough to DoS us on purpose, but I doubt that’s the case.

I’m going to keep it down for a bit until either our quota resets or I can figure out what’s up with this crawler.

I know I’ve seen these before, so I’ll ask the meat-world search engine: who has .doc versions of the DW playbooks?

Armistice: A Dungeon World LongCon…

In the shadow a never-ending war, your adventurers have a unique opportunity to loot long-lost tombs, explore new wilds and hinderlands, and journey throughout the land. There is no end to the excitement… and great heroes will be born in this age of change and upheaval!

Travis Scott and I will be running a last-minute, totally epic, all-kinds-of-fun, longcon at Origins over the next few days. This is something we’re just throwing together for people who really want to try out this format of game (3 full games in 3 days for maximum character development in a con setting), but we think that it’s going to be a pretty amazing experience.

At this point, we’re looking for 5-10 players to commit to the following times: 8pm – 12am on Friday, 2pm – 6pm on Saturday, and 9am – 1pm on Sunday. We’re looking for folks who want to sign up for all three and drop-ins who are wiling to play for just a game or two. If you’re interested in this and at Origins, please drop a note here in the comments so that I can get you a spot!

We’ll be running the event in the Indie Games on Demand room, so feel free to drop by to see if we’ve got seats. We look forward to seeing our story explode with awesomeness for the next few days!

What would Dungeon World have been like back in 1979? Well, that would be John Harper’s World of Dungeons, now available to everyone!

The fighter is the class I’ve most considered revising, as Signature Weapon has gotten some interesting responses. I came across this bit in Playing At The World that actually made me appreciate our break from D&D tradition here:

“While Conan looms so large and is so self-sufficient that his swords are all anonymous and interchangeable, the tradition of pedigreed swords stretches far back into mythology and permeates the literature that influenced Dungeons & Dragons. Without unearthing ancient celebrity couples such as Roland and Durendal or Arthur and Excalibur, nearly every fantasy hero worth his salt comes paired with an exceptional weapon.”
