So I have determined that, for tonight’s Planarch Codex kickoff game:
• The characters will have been hired by a brain in a jar with golemechanical spider legs.
• They will be hired to recover a book from a dungeon/jail.
• The book will actually be the full-body tattoo of one of the prisoners.
• This is the jail.
Cool. What are the other jobs available?
I haven’t rolled those up yet; I’m running this as a short thing to fill in the gap from now to the end of this season of Encounters. I’m still going to put together a starting parish or two and a handful of jobs/news from the generator, but I’m taking the core DW approach of “you all start outside a dungeon”.
Unless I’m missing something about how a Codex game is supposed to start?
Very cool, I don’t have the Planarch Codex yet, I’m assuming it’s pretty awesome?
Personally, I think giving the players a choice of jobs is important, but it’s your game. Do what makes sense!
Joe Sallitt It’s like Planescape, except that the city (Dis) is alive, slowly eating the multiverse, and hates you.

Wow somehow I missed that this went up for sale! Thanks!
That job is super metal!
I can see starting in media res right before the big reveal that the map is a dude.
How does the map being a dude complicate retrieval? What does the dude want out of all this?
The map isn’t a dude. It’s a wandering golem that’s been hollowed out and is used as a prison. It wanders from city to city, taking in the worst criminals the city has to offer.
Oh, eh, I meant “book” instead of “map.”
Also my phone didn’t show me the picture of the prison. Holy crap!
Oh, the dude is just a prisoner. He’d be more than happy to get busted out; he might have a problem with the “why” though.
Rad picture. Do you have a link to the original source?
I want to play that game!
Lukas Myhan I do, I’ll post it when I get home tonight. It’s actually a t-shirt.
I love it.

Sean, you may have just come up with my pitch for a WoDu Planarch Codex game at G.o.D.
“And you still have to make rent.”
