Up a 6- to a 7-9.
For a result of anything less than 10, use the rules that would otherwise be applied to a 7-9 result.
even if you roll a 4, treat it as if you had rolled a 7-9

Mark Weis That’s a good point. My guess would be that you don’t mark XP if you roll a miss with a modifier like this in place (because it immediately becomes a 7-9 rather than moving forward as a miss).
