Just had an informal session zero last night with some new players. One of the PCs is a snake woman, her mother was a witch and her father was a basilisk. I am playing around with a racial move for her to paralyze or turn folks to stone, cos thats what she wants. Here is what I have so far:
When you draw a creature’s gaze with your terrifying beauty and open your third eye, roll+CHA, on a 7+ the target begins to turn to stone. On a 7-9 choose 1:
-You draw the gaze of an ally, and they too begin to turn to stone
-Your third eye sees its reflection, and you cannot open it again until you rest
What do y’all think? I would like another choice or two for 7-9, but i’m drawing a blank. Thanks.
Certainly, that´s a great and dangerous power. Be careful, or you´ll have an ogre statues collection very soon! However, that´s an interesting skill… specially for your Hard Moves…
– Turn important property and/or environment to stone. Sometimes it cannot bear its own weight and shatters. Bad for vegetation, king’s crowns, suits of armor, etc. (it is not the greatest, but maybe it will prompt some other’s thoughts).
That feels too strong for a casual racial move. I’d have it maybe freeze them in place, or paralyze them.
When you draw a creature’s gaze with your terrifying beauty and open your third eye, roll+CHA, on a hit the target freezes in place, unable to move . On a 7-9 choose 1:
– You also affect an ally
– The effect is momentary
– You over-exert yourself and cannot open your third eye again until you rest
Then add a second move that simply says “When you open your third eye and lock eyes with a creature for a few uninterrupted minutes, they begin to turn to stone.”
This is pretty powerful, but you could use it with the Dark Heart of the Dreamer heritages moves system – I’m pretty sure that uses hold so you get a limited number of petrifications per session.
It’s effect is minor and only slows the target’s movement.
You must maintain concentration on the target and are unable to look away.
thanks folks, yeah, i wasn’t really sure how to do it. i am new at this stuff.
Aaron Griffin i really appreciate this revision, i think it fits well, and is flexible without being too powerful. thank you.
Noah Tucker i really like the heritage moves system, which is what i initially had, but having a clearly written move is i think more helpful for my crew. my players are mostly newbies like me, as in never played before.
Jennifer Erixon I this this is completely compatible with heritage moves, though. Doesn’t it just let you write one or two moves that you would have from your heritage? This sounds like a great one for a medusa or snake woman.
