So here’s another base class I’ve designed for my upcoming grim-and-gritty fantasy game set in Widow’s Landing, a class from 3.5 that I always loved the flavor of, even though I was underwhelmed by it’s mechanics: The Hexblade. Let me know what you think!

  1. Hmm…I kinda thought about it as partially based on the tiefling’s reputation for being willing to levy horrible curses on those who wrong them. So yeah, anyone can say “Do what I want or I curse you!” but with a Tiefling Hexblade, that’s always just assumed, without the Hexblade actively threatening it.

  2. Blade of Ill Omen does auto damage + you get mana or do additional fictional damage.  I think it is OP as a replacement for H&S.

    Hex may also be OP but I love the way you balanced it with risk. Well done!

    Lastly I love the Aura of Misfortune: MAgnificent fictional possibilities there. 

    I think this is an excellent concept!

  3. Remember though, just like the Thief’s Backstab ability (which it’s based off of), Blade of Ill Omen requires some set-up to make sure that the target is facing horrible odds or unusual misfortune. Sure that means you can just Hex them, but then they must have wronged you first.

    If you don’t want to jump through that hoop, then you need to position yourself or your allies so that your opponent is now facing horrible odds or unusual misfortune, likely Defying Danger in the process.
