The bard of my group expressed the intention to take a multiclass spell casting move next advancement. The character is played as a scholar of magic and myth, with a vast amount of knowledge.
I would like to propose wizard, mage, and channeller from grim world.
Are there any possible problems with the non basic playbooks?
Are there other playbooks that could fit?
The channeler and mage casting moves are, up to me, less scholarly and more intuition based. If you want to fit an academic-type character, maybe you should look to the Vancomancer.
David Guyll’s Vancomancer?
yess
David Guyll honestly, I was expecting some more sales pitch. 😉
Mage should be okay, Channeler is really more innate and intuition based but should fit too.
I don’t see any problems per se.
Note that higher level multiclassing into a spellcaster is weaker it is one of the base classes since they start at level 1 for casting. When MCing into Channeler or Mage there is no such distinction.
David Guyll I honestly don’t generally understand the excitement about undead, tough skeleton vs shiny vampire wins any day.
David Guyll actually, I would be curious to see your take on the warlock/tiefling thing.
The problem with “pacts as a class” is that every demon/devil/deep one pact is so different from the other. By putting it directly into mechanics you are killing a bunch of options that would not fit with this.
I feel like this is something that should come up in game to then be examined.
Does that make sense?
(however i love Star Pact Warlocks as a concept. It is just difficult to do right i think)
Tim Franzke I think your issue can be solved by having a separate sheet for basic and advanced moves divided by pact. A little bit like a spell list or as the Mage’s Foci. That would allow more flexibility. Tougher to playtest, obviously.
This still is more orderly then i would like. Not individualistic enough.
David Guyll any draft of a playbook?
Tim Franzke Random generation of the pact?
No. Especially not!
But why would you get a cool basty power from your pact?
Faust didn’t have a blasty power.
I think that’s because the blast is in the D&D version. Small curses would work, also.
Why would i make a pact to curse people? I would make a pact to be rich and influential. Silvertongue. That sort of thing.
I am not saying this is the only way this could work. But if you look at stories, that is generally how it works. You don’t get pact powers to be a better adventurer. You get them so that you don’t have to adventure.
Maybe have a look at the Infernal from Monsterhearts for further inspiration.
