Question about hirelings: how many hirelings can effect one roll. For instance if the players have two hirelings with the warrior skill at 1 each would they only get +1 to the damage or a +2? Am I missing something in the rules?

  1. I would say that the +2 for two hirelings would be accurate, but according to the rules stats are divided between cost, loyalty, and skills. Obviously, how the stats are distributed would contribute to the fiction.  I feel like you may be worried about players abusing bonuses, but if they max attack for warriors, use the deficiencies in their other traits to make things interesting.  Sure, a bunch of warriors could provide major bonuses to attack, but if their loyalty is nil then who says they don’t become their own mercenary troupe right underneath the PC’s, questioning loyalty on a 7-9, defecting on a 6-?

  2. I’d go with “Single highest bonus”, myself. Otherwise, mechanically, someone with enough hirelings would never fail. I’d have the others helping narratively, though.

  3. Someone with enough hirelings is going to have to deal with those hirelings. They’ll want to get paid, some of them will be ambitious, others will be lazy. All of a sudden, the player(s) will be playing Dungeon Middle Management World.
