  1. Version 0.3 is going to feature advantage/disadvantage as a key addition to the game!

I like momentum in Ironsworn – we did discuss it, but it’s been tabled for now I think!

  2. City of Judas’s advantage/disadvantage is pretty sweet as I read it, although I didn’t try it at the table yet.

The biggest issue to me is actually just remembering a bonus as they are freely handed in DW, it’s easy to forget about them (especially things like DR’s take +1 Forward to act on it)

CoJ’s advantage system isn’t statistically the same but it does have two neat features that appeals to me :

    1. You don’t need to remember/track all the different +1 Forward/Ongoing

    2. You decide when to activate it, so it will always be useful vs +1 Forward is only ever useful on a result of 6 or 9.

  3. Addramyr Palinor WoA 0.3 doesn’t have saved advantage (like inspiration in D&D 5e); it’s more that you have advantage when doing a thing (like +1 Forward works).

  4. K, well it is indeed a “modern” adaptation of a bloated system of stacking small bonuses (i.e. a big problem of D&D 3e) but it doesn’t really fix the bookkeeping problem when the bonus doesn’t apply to your very next action.

To retake my previous example, Discern Realities gives you +1 Forward to act on the answer, but sometimes you don’t act on the answer right away and then when it happens, you forgot about it.

Advantage/disadvantage as in 5e is good for stopping stacking bonuses and penalties. I’m not sure DW suffers from this. It is pretty rare that you get more than a +1 to a check in DW.

  5. Addramyr Palinor The idea behind trying out Advantage over +1 Forward/Ongoing is that it has a physical component – the extra die – and should, by extension, be easier to keep track of during play.

Whether that will prove true, we don’t know yet.
