What are some exciting things that could happen in a large scale battle against a stronghold. The details need to push action and change the environment. Think zoomed out and off camera, too.
Something like:
-The archers loose a volley
-The calvary bursts in
-The southern wall collapses
-Raise the ladders!
-A mystic fog rolls in
-Release the trolls
-The city has been breached
What about some stalemate / seige stuff? Food runs low, rotting corpses are catapulted in, the wells are poisoned, etc
Aaron Griffin gritty. I like it.
– The gate is destroyed
– Fires rage and grow
– The commander is slain
– The leadership has abandoned the fortress through a secret passage
– The war bulettes emerge
– Storm clouds form over the wizard’s tower
– Her Majesty throws the gates wide and all who gaze upon her fall to their knees
War bulettes… awesome Logan Howard!
-The dead in the crypts below the castle stir
-A traitor locks the doors to the cathedral, trapping innocents inside – flickering flames can be seen through the colored glass
-The king wants to ride forth in a suicide charge
-There are … things … in the escape tunnels
War bulettes sounds adorable and horrifying.
A parley with actual stakes.. the besiegers will end the siege if certain negotiations are met. But unknown parties on both sides want the war to continue and are trying to pull the strings and sabotage the talks. Let dice hit the table! (This is also a great way to meet the enemy and for the moment, not try to kill them. )
During one annoying storm of arrows, a child decides its time to come out of the womb. The child birth is complicated by trying to get water during a hail of besieger arrow fire.
* The skies open up for 3 days of nothing but steady rain. The besiegers cannot attack during that time. On the 4th day, oh yes, it is sunny, but everywhere is mud… a sea of mud. The besiegers start tearing down outlying farms for planks and stone and creating a pathway to the castle. Can the besieged prevent it from being built?
Disease begins to spread.
Fire in the city.
A third Army approaches
– “Hey! Some people are coming out of that cool wooden horse they gave us!”
Wayne Peacock A battle of … five armies?! 🙂
Ray Otus No :@$:ing eagles! Or dragons. 😉
And if the stronghold wins:
>Word has reached your allies
>Cavalry approaches the enemy horde from the East
>The Sun rises as the charge begins
>The horde is defeated.
The besieger reveals its hostage – the only child of the defending ruler
If the defenders try to wait out the siege, bandits in the countryside run rampant while the ruler is pinned down. What do you do?
– rumors that assasins are out to get the leaders
People are sneaking into the castle to resupply through a secret door.
Suddenly, the castle is deserted.
Sorties
Someone in the castle begins waving a sequence of flags, lighting various numbers of lanterns, or sending slime signals. What do they mean? Who is redirecting the messages?
