I’d like to run a collaborative worldbuilding session next week, to build out the city my players are now suddenly in. Are there any tools out there that do city-building specifically? If not, I’ll hack together some Microscope and some Perilous Wilds and have a good time still, but seemed worth asking!

  1. Vast & Starlit’s planet-creation is just as good for making up a city I would imagine, and the free version of Godbound is loaded with tables that could probably be rolled on for town-making goodness. There’s a town builder PDF I found the other day whose name I forget; I’ll try to find it and post it.

  2. Alfred Rudzki Thanks very much! I thik a town builder seems more my scale than the planet creation process, though it does look like a fun time!

  3. I would recommend you check out the Dresden Files RPG city creation system or the Noirlandia RPG for some relevant tools on that front. They are both pretty robust and fun toolkits.

You might want to take a look at my free little product, “A Spark in Fate Core” for another approach if you are curious, though it’s less purpose-built for cities.

  4. Oh wow thank you all for these suggestions! I’ve got some reading and planning to do before next session!

Edward Hickcox this is for my current home group so it won’t be accessible from online, but I’ll do a write-up of our final process of anyone wants to try and replicate it!

  5. Thanks so much again everyone for your suggestions! I ended up going with mostly reskinning Perilous Wilds for the first collaborative session and we’re wrapping it up this Tuesday, where I’ll probably bust out a few more of these excellent tables!
