So nerdwerds contains a list they proclaim to be all the playbooks. Also apparently a few hacks. There is a link to a hack called Crystals, by a user called Bug Man. The link is unfortunately dead. I’ve been jonesing for some Final Fantasy though, anyone know an alternate location that book might be found?

  1. Any idea where a guy might start? I’m thinking that if I were to make one I’d stick to as many tropes as I could, but perhaps tweak them in ways that the system. For example, I’d want to bring back HP per level, but max it at 99 (for mostly scale differences). I would still keep 10 levels to keep the moves lists fairly minimal. I’d probably do a few very basic classes based on the original FF and add in iconic moves as compendium classes. For example, if a player wanted Jump, I’d say something like Whenever you visit the Highwind Temple and gain their trust, the dragoons there will teach you techniques that strengthen your legs greatly. Roll +(something) *On a 10+ pick 2. On *7-9 pick 1.

Then I’d have a list of things like

*You get to a location you can see, but everyone else would need to climb to

*You hack and slash a distant foe based on your result

*You do not draw unwanted attention.

Just an example, probably needs refining.

  2. Josh C I’ve been thinking about this since I saw your post. I don’t know that I would do HP per level because you grow out in DW, not up. Escalation isn’t a thing in DW.

My earliest experiences with FF were VII (which obviously didn’t have classes) and Tactics (which had them in the form of jobs).

If I we’re to make a Final Fantasy collection I’d take the base “classes” of Tactics and add Compendium Classes for the derivative jobs.

    Just my thoughts lol

  3. I would do HP per level in FF because regardless of what happens in DW, you grow UP in FF. Escalation IS a thing in FF. Escalation IS a thing that’s critical to my FF experience. I would marginalize it though. And I’d planned on using the base classes I know: Warrior, Monk, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage.
