I recently started playing a cleric in an extended play campaign and have been eyeballing the advanced move apotheosis. It’s intriguingly vague, have others used this effectively in play? If so I’m excited to hear how. No doubt if you gain wings you can fly, and claws allow an attack bare handed, but how have folks made this move sing?

Side question: what is an extended play campaign? Just scheduled for a long time?
Yes sir, not just a three or four shot- expecting it to go on for a few months at least.
Death was my deity and i took his “Hand of Death”. New move to instantly kill those Death deamed “their time” was up.
Robert Doe that’s pretty awesome.
A third eye that makes you see magic/alignment/casts auto-fear, choose one
Heck yeah- an eye that sees through lies, or sees deepest desires might be pretty cool too.
Joshua Faller also I always thought that the apotheosis gives you a feature that is hard to hide and makes you a misfit, even though you are very happy about it because it’s your deities greatest blessing. For example, I imagine Robert Doe ‘s “hand of death” as a skeletal hand, or the third eye I mentioned as restlessly searching around.
Yeah, I don’t think I would read it ‘misfit’, but I think divine mark is baked into the move. (I was picturing a skeletal hand too, though a withered hand, a skinless hand, or a hand of inky shadow would all be pretty sweet too). Anyway, thanks for the thoughts- this is already helping alot. I’m playing a dwarf, and I was getting caught up on boring canned stuff like stone skin, and blackened hands that were a sign of immunity to fire.
Glad to help. Good luck!
Shaken, Not Stirred Depending on your deity, I immediately pictured a dwarf cleric of a god of the earth gaining literal mithril veins. Makes his veins a shimmering silver and also let’s him use his blood for smithing. Could burn melee attackers it gets on too since it might be like molten metal, but magic means that doesn’t have to be the case.
Nice! Yeah, I’m playing him as sort of a folkloric (vs. Tolkien) dwarf- all old men, backwards feet, turn into toads during the day (so much more fun! he’s creepy!), I’ve established that dwarves are ancestor venerators(rather than worshiping a single god), though it tracks to ‘what lies beneath’ and the religion is cultish and demands secrets. I’m almost tempted to do something with a cacophony of whispers- like dozens of transparent barely seen dwarvish figures flying around him rustling his beard and clothes constantly, and providing an ever present susurrus that furnish him with every secret told within (X) distance, and add the optional question to Discern Realities What is (Y)’s greatest desire? Does that track?
Joshua Faller that sounds epic
Shaken, Not Stirred Could be fun!
