I’m going to stop allowing the Magic User to begin the game with a magic wand, staff, or orb. There are two reasons. First, no other class gets to begin the game with a magic item. Second, I want to work up to these items with a series of lesser versions of the same.

I’ve always assumed they weren’t “magic items” in the DW sense, only giving you additional Casting Power. Or is that what you mean?
Well, they’re items that modify game mechanics so… I’m calling them Magic Items. Either way… A few more spell compromises and failures will be more fun for everyone. I made this decision while finally writing a feature-length article on Magic Items in FotF. Watch for it soon!
I’ve tried this out twice now and I really like it. “Spell Components” and other “Minor Magical Trinkets” have become more a commodity in flux.
