I have been reading as much as I can get my hands on about DW and ordered the book yesterday. I have many questions but I’m going to start with just this one- is it possible to play this with only 2 people? Meaning me as the GM and one other person? I’m in the military and move every few years so finding some folks to play (on a somewhat consistant basis) is difficult. My wife and I are the only 2 I can count on. So is it possible?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Folks tend to post regular games online too- so you might want to play a few rounds if your tech situation allows before running. Gauntlet Hangouts here posts lots of games, and there are a lot more on Roll20. Have fun!

  2. You might also make a character yourself and use them as a sort of sidekick for your wife’s character. You see far more buddy movies than “lone, implacable hero” stories.

  3. Thanks everyone!!! I need to look into some of the online options. Anyone willing to take a total noob into their group? I’ve a lifetime of experience playing everything from DnD to MMORPG’s but know next to nothing about DW other than what I’ve read these past few days.

  4. If you don’t mind Play-by-Post, I have a game running on Tavern Keeper that I don’t mind opening to a 6th. We’ve already gone through world gen, but if your fine with an endless magic desert broken up by small “islands” and airships, you’ll fit in fine.

  5. Michael Llaneza I was considering the idea of introducing two NPC’s early on to join her quest for adventure but I also dont want to overwhelm her. Id rather she was just heavily invested in her character for the sake of roleplay. Hmmm….

  6. I’ve only done one session with one on one, solo PC play.  But it worked great, maybe even better than other systems… because DW characters are really robust.  The fiction might make Roh a terrible equestrian, but he gets to roll just like anyone else.  He bounces on the saddle during the river crosses and almost falls off, but manages to latch on long enough… fuel for the NPC laughter!

  7. We have a Google+ play-by-post currently running. We lost two of our players but are still going strong with 3+GM. Send a request to tim stephens

  8. Check out the  #DiscernRealities podcast. It is all about the Dungeon World RPG and the hosts have a short Actual Play section at the end of each episode and it is just between the two of them.
