Some advanced moves require or replace other moves. Is it okay to have two moves preclude each other (I.E. there is a playbook set in the star wars universe might have two moves :
The Light Side
Precludes: The Dark Side
The Dark Side
Precludes: The Light Side)
Seems like something you’d find in a compendium class. Base class, Force User, then two comp. classes Jedi Master and Sith Lord which you obtain by narratively choosing the light or dark sides (which means you could change again later).
I don’t see any reason why not. The Barbarian starts out with a choice between Full Plate and Packing Steel and Unencumbered, Unharmed. I’ve seen similar choices in other fan playbooks.
The Mage (and I think a few others) has an “Aspect” system where by choosing one you get penalties for, or can not use other Aspects.
If they’re starting moves, there’s no special notation other than “choose one”. If this is for advancement, I would just have one advanced move which makes you pick one of two options.
Though, it would be better to use “precluded by” notations on the dependent move rather than “precludes” on the base moves — that way, when you’re considering taking the advanced move, you know what you have to check. The other way, you’d have to scan every move you have to see if there were any conflicts.
