Draft of a new CC class for Tavernite Review…
The timing of this is great. My current DW story arc involves a fungal growth and a small fishing village. This doesn’t fit exactly, but it gives me some ideas.
Our fungus works much like cordyceps does – taking over entire body parts with growth. It affects wild animals and humans alike. It also creates an instinct to protect the Mother while the creature is still alive.
Very Body Snatchers, Mr. Aaron Griffin.
Mark Tygart Google image search “cordyceps” for some really gross images of insects overtaken by the fungus. It gives me chills that this is real
Aaron Griffin,Try playing The Last of Us.
Oh wow. That’s basically my thing, except the hosts become fragile and die in a few days.
Aaron Griffin There is just something wonderfully creepy about fungus creatures. I’m working on a Fungal Hybrid Base Class, my first.
the fungal Fanatic looks interesting but a bit to specific to underground/Fungal Environments for my taste. But some interesting ideas for sure.
Similar to the “Blob” compendium class. Personally I think the starting move is not robust enough to make it attractive though.
I’d also add some moves like “When you sleep small screamer mushrooms sprout from you and act like the wizard spell Alarm” or something like that.
Also maybe add a “cloud of spores” breath weapon based on CON.
Might I suggest this for Fungal Restoration
When you Make Camp and rest on a bed of organic matter, you do not need to consume a ration and you heal an additional 1d6 HP.
Makes for a more viable move outside of caverns you can only use once.
Eric Lochstampfor Yes, you may be right. It is a first draft.
I’d suggest the Minion or the Cloud of Spores breath weapon as the starting move but also add things like immunity to plant based poisons. If you went with the breath weapon perhaps add advanced moves that allow you to change the affect based on other types of spores, maybe cause hallucinations or blinding gas.
One idea for a twist on the minion is to infect another, like a host. Have the fungus rot the NPCs brain to take it over, making them your fungal slave or something liek the zombie fungus, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis.
Eric Lochstampfor That was sorta the idea behind the Fungal Minion.
