Eating weird things. I once had to eat a jaguar tail to gain its speed.
You can borrow from historic Hermetic texts, like luke crane did with his Miseries and Misfortunes RPG:
Arte Invisibilitatis (invisibility)
“Sacrifice a black cat and plant its body with heliotrope seeds in a closed garden with water. Feed the seeds with human blood mixed with water. From the carcass, a strange plant will grow. One of the seeds of said plant will grant invisibility when placed in the mouth under the tongue…It takes 15 days for the seed to grow into a plant.”
This would be well to combine this with the Advanced Move “Self Powered” giving a means by which a wizard can, at his manse/home/private glade, cast spells that he doesn’t have in a spell book proper.
Using actual alchemical/occult rituals from the works of Ptolemy, Galen, Pliny et al would certainly give your campaign less of a heroic high fantasy vibe and more of a Brother’s Grimm, dark fantasy feel.
