Does anyone else allow levelling up at the end of the session?

Does anyone else allow levelling up at the end of the session? I know the rules say to level up when you rest but I always feel its fair to give them at the end of the session because they get xp and it usually makes them happy. But I might be taking out something when I do this.

What do others think?

  1. Shouldn’t be a problem at all. Maybe do a little time skip in the beginning of next session and ask everyone how they learned their new stuff.

  2. I don’t see a reason that it would detract from the game, but my playgroup has never had a problem just keeping it to when you make camp. It can be kinda fun, and it’s always a nice little treat when a player has racked up a bunch of XP.

  3. We usually stop playing because we’ve run out of time, so we quickly note experience and level up at the start of the following session, which gives a chance to recap the last session and get in the mood. Works well.

  4. I will say that it does reduce the amount of times the players will take Camp as they are only doing it for healing instead of levelling up.

  5. I let it happen between sessions, even when they’re in the middle of something.

When I try something new IRL, I learn it while I’m doing it — I don’t wait until I’m going to bed to “reflect” on it.
