Working on a DW hack (Advanced Funnel World?) that uses a Vancian magic system whereby Magic-Users start with random spells, and are subject to arcane mishaps a la the DCC RPG.
The spell names are generated randomly. Each time you cast a given spell, you say what you want it to do, within the scope of the spell’s name. A spell is instantaneous, touch, and single target by default, and you spend spellpower to add tags and effects.
I’m putting the finishing touches on the spell name generation tables today, and here are the first 10 I just rolled:
Kubalia’s Heart of Darkness
Dulark’s Arcane Circle
Shield of the Gruesome Horn
Magad’s Water Brain
Flooz’s Floating Guise
Eye of Floating Deceit
Tongue of Black Void
Evil Souls
Zilioz’s Ultimate Oil
Restorative Despair
I have no idea how this will all work out in play, but now I’m dying to find out!
as a fan of both DW and DCC, I can’t wait!
Aw yiss, the Eye of Floating Deceit!
Ha! I read that as a “Vatican” magic system. Pax vobiscum!
The random spells are awesome 😉
Samoht Strebor
great concept can’t wait to see if finalized.
This makes me kinda giddy.
I agree, Sascha Müller, those spell names rock!
Jason, you always surprise and amaze me in uncanny ways of gamedesigning existing concepts into unexpected yet brilliant ways.
Really looking forward to see what comes of this! Maybe bundle it in with the PJ kickstarter (there will be one, right? looooove Servants of the Cinder Queen)?
That’s the plan! It’ll be a stretch goal — rules and classes for a hex crawl/treasure-hunting campaign that makes use of the PJ stuff.
